It's sort of apt by mistake, but it's still stupid
  • No, but we probably sounded something like that way before there were neanderthals and modern humans though. At some point, somebody figured out how to tell their peers that they're going to have to hunt for something big

  • It's sort of apt by mistake, but it's still stupid
  • They did speak weird though! Analysis of their airways suggest that they had a much higher-pitched voice than our kind, and probably had a harder time with consonants. So their language would have certainly been different. Although we have no way of knowing if parts of their language still lives on in our speech today.

Men visst, "talare" blir lite roligt på svenska

  • Right, so I seem to have gotten it wrong on his name. It was Neander (New Man in greek) rather than Neumann (New Man in german), but I should also have specified in the meme that the name means New Man.

  • I wonder if AOC would be a point of contention for swing voters though. She's obviously great and very competent, but that has put a target on her back that has given her press that could be deterimental to a presidential candidate. Though I suppose that goes for all presidential candidates

  • My newest ship, the Denisova

She's ugly as sin. Looks a bit like a sea turtle, but less graceful. She will, however, smash up enemies at 26km with her three cannon turrets. She was made to have good armour and good firepower, and that took a while to fix, but now she's can dish out enormous hurt at great range. If enemies get closer, she's got all sorts of shorter-range weapons that can defend her at close distance, and she has 6 PD-turrets to take down torpedos.

All in all, she's a huge success so far. Shame she's so ugly though, but function over form :p

  • Who'd be the dream choice for american democrats? Hillary Clinton? Michelle Obama (who's not even a politician) with Barrack as advisor or VP?

I get that this is Lemmy and most people here are communists who'll say Bernie Sanders, and that's fine too, but wouldn't he turn away a bunch of voters?

  • It's sort of apt by mistake, but it's still stupid
  • Hehe. Never heard of that one. I want to know how aware these people are when they name things. In sports, a bit of humor is probably common, but with the neanderthals, I just don't see the high-strung scientists of the late 1800's intentionally making a joke on this kind of thing. I do however see them doubling down on a decision even if it's pointed out that it's stupid.

  • First post. This my humble fleet so far

I've played dozens of hours, but I still think I'm pretty much a noob. I've got 3 ships and the first 4 materials, although I've just started on the 4th, and the 3rd seems semi-useless. So I'm in the Titanium-age.

I play on normal difficulty, which seems maybe a bit too easy, but I hate changing difficulties in the middle of a playthrough.

    Crazy Molly - Miner

    !

This is the Crazy Molly. My first ship, and still a standard purifying mining ship. She's alright. Decent speed and she makes money. Small and not much use in a fight.

    Neanderthal - Corvette

    !

My pride and joy, the second ship - Neanderthal. She can boost-cruise (intermittent boosting) at nearly 3000/ms, she's got a modest but useful cargo capacity, and she's got nearly all the firepower in the fleet so far. She's covered in light titanium armour and has naonite stone on the front to act as a ram and fender. I somewhat unfairly abuse the fact that I seem to take a lot less collision damage than AI stations, when my firepower is found lacking.

    Erectus - Fast Transport/Miner

    !

She looks like the year 2002 in one picture

    !

This is the Erectus. She's an R-miner, and the main breadwinner since her christening. She's covered in titanium armour for survivability and has a titanium stone ram, but she's not actually meant for fighting. She'll boost-cruise at close to 2000m/s and is meant to serve as both transport and miner.

Both Crazy Molly and Erectus suffer from poor jump capabilities, which I'm hoping to fix with research or by reaching better equipment stations.

Both Neanderthal and Erectus have been upgunned and slightly modified after the screenshots were taken, since I've been working on building new turrets on them today.

Next up I think I'll build another combat ship. Either a larger vessel with several torpedo tubes or long range-guns, or another Neanderthal. After that, I feel the need for a light transport to use for cargo missions.

    Show me your fleet!

  • Socialists and liberalists had their chance. They showed that they want to harm society, devalue workers, discriminate against men and suppress those who don't toe the PC line.

Sorry old girl. There's only one alternative if you're a swedish man.

What is the law like on unwanted fatherhood in your country?

Let's talk about safe sex in Europe. It's quite the big legal subject, but one needn't get into all the details.

    I'll start with mine: Sweden

Fatherhood carries the responsibility for the childs livelihood, same as motherhood. A father who doesn't live in the same household as his child and/or isn't legal guardian will have to pay money to the child (or usually mother) until they are 18 or 21, depending on if they are still going to school. If the father does not pay, the government will pay instead, and then collect the money from him.

    • If a married woman is pregnant, the husband is legally the father. It doesn't matter if somebody else knocked her up. If a married man wants to challenge his fatherhood of a child, he will in practice need the cooperation of the actual father to prove that he isn't.

    • If an unmarried woman is pregnant, a man can sign up for fatherhood. If a man doesn't, social services will have to examine who the father is. This can be done through various methods and if they fail to ascertain who the father is, but the pregnant woman says who it is, it will be taken to court. In court, as far as I know, the burden of proof is nearly non-existant.

In all cases, if a man is legally determined to be the father of a child, but disputes this, or suspects he isn't, he will need the actual father to help determine that he isn't.

What's it like in your country?
