US Fascism Has Arrived Thanks to 30 Years of Right-Wing Talk Radio Dominance
  • In American politics the "love it or leave it" trope you are using is undeniably right-wing rhetoric. It was first popularized in that form by McCarthy and Nixon as a response to civil rights and anti-Vietnam War protests. It has since been used by Reagan, both Bushes, and Trump primary in response to either protests or immigrants that they believe have not sufficiently assimilated into American culture. It's also probably the most unAmerican trope currently used in American political discourse. Protest and criticism of government is fundamental to America's history and identity and is covered by 3 of the freedoms guaranteed in the First Amendment.

  • Judge weighs whether to dismiss movie armorer’s conviction in fatal set shooting by Alec Baldwin
  • There should be outrage if everyone walks away from this without any real consequences, there was significant negligence and disregard for safety on the movie set and it resulted in a death. This conviction should be overturned anyway. There isn't even the illusion of fairness or justice when the state is allowed to hide and even destroy evidence as they have in this case. For the state to strip rights and freedoms from a person it is incumbent upon the state to prove that the person has committed the crimes of which they have been accused and to do so in a fair and open process.

  • Swiss police make arrests over suspected death in ‘suicide capsule’
  • I'd suspect the nationality of the individual may play a role.

I'm not convinced. Kevorkian was acquitted 3 times and had one mistrial for basically the exact same thing back in the 90s and US opinion has continued to soften on assisted suicide since then. It's legal in 10 states. Kevorkian was eventually convicted of 2nd degree murder but that was after he pushed the button for a patient and represented himself in court. Maybe Swiss officials are giving it undue scrutiny because she was American but I doubt that American officials are pushing for this to get any special attention.

  • Putin regime will collapse without warning, says freed gulag dissident
  • Missions to secure nuclear weapons happened when the Soviet Union collapsed and the Russian government invited the US in to do some of them. The missions wouldn't be to take the sites and disarm the weapons, the goal would be to make sure all weapons are accounted for, being properly maintained, and under the control of a government. It would be to make sure the Russian arsenal wasn't being sold or taken by splinter groups or extremists rather than to disarm Russia. I expect China would be doing a lot more of it than the US if Russia collapsed in the near future but the US as well as UN nuclear inspectors would almost certainly have a role.

  • ‘Useful Idiot for Russia’: DNC Decides to Go Off on Jill Stein
  • That's always going to be the case with a first past the post election system. There can only be 2 parties with a chance to win at any one time and both are forced to be big tents. Because they have no chance at winning third parties get more choice on the issues they focus on and more freedom in how they talk about those issues.

We need election reform. We need a voting system that gives more power to minority voices and we need an election system that makes Congress better reflect the actual vote. I like STAR voting and want to move the house to proportional representation. We would most likely still have 2 big tent more or less center parties that will trade the plurality but the big tents would have to work with the minority party representatives to get enough votes to pass legislation. It's possible that more minority party visibility and them being taken more seriously would lead to a more ideologically diverse Senate and it would almost certainly boost minority party power in state and local elections.

  • Do you think your partner looks better with makeup?
  • Purely aesthetically I like light makeup. She doesn't look best in light makeup though. We like hiking and most of our vacations are to various trails. She is at her most attractive after a difficult climb. She is a very strong climber and during the climb she has an amazing confidence. Right after she gets to the top and sees the view she gets this look of accomplishment and joy and it's absolutely breathtaking. So she looks best sweaty, dirty, exhausted, and happy.

  • I'm sure the women will be so very sad
  • When spoken should've can sound a lot like should of or shoulda depending on the dialect. Most native speakers don't really think about gammer rules when writing informally, they just write how they speak.

  • Who did you hate the most?
  • She was supposed to be like Dr.McCoy from TOS. They were going for a Spock/McCoy type relationship between her and Data. Data was a far more autistic coded character than Spock plus there was a different dynamic because Spock was rejecting his human half and Data was striving to be more human so it mostly just came off as her being super abusive to a fan favorite character.

  • You can take one military base with all associated equipment and personnel back to 1941 to win WW2. Which do you choose?
  • I wouldn't do an airforce or naval base because modern air and sea systems couldn't be repaired and resupplied in 1941. Tanks still run on diesel and can fire the munitions used in WW2 so that's a possibility but they still can't be repaired and transporting them to Europe would be a significant undertaking. Imagine bringing them to the past only to lose half of them to a uboat in the middle of the Atlantic. They also wouldn't be very useful in the Pacific.

I'm going to go with Liberty. It has army special forces command, a Ranger regiment, and a modern medical facility. I think the most valuable thing we could send back to 1941 is knowledge and training. Deploy the Rangers as trainers and advisers, send the medical personnel to teach modern trauma medicine and lead surgical units.
