I mean I don't know how big it was worldwide, but where I'm from there was like a whole trend some years back where teens would have these, landline telephone speaker/mics you plugged in to the headphone jack to make calls and they'd have it hang around their neck when not using it it was the dumbest fucking thing I've ever seen.

Fuck I wish I could, but it's US only. I was ready to take on debt when they announced that they're quitting a decade ago, but a trip to the US is just way too fucking much. To expand on that, people can be smart in one aspect and really fucking dumb in others. Intelligence is a spectrum, it's not binary like you're either smart or dumb. Plenty of people who understand quantum level physics etc. who are socially and emotionally at the level of children and vice versa and so on.

If you really think someone who just happens to have been born those things and gets the worst treatment than someone who, say is, POC and/or LGBTQ, who is better off than someone who is homeless for example you're delusional and extremely discriminative. It largely concerns all of those things, but it's not as bipolar as american identity politics makes it up to be, it's more about class politics and politics essentially and way more subjective and individual than you're making it out to be - which is exactly my point, not a single one of any gender, sexuality, class, anything is a fucking monolith you should discriminate against as one. That's discrimination, not all white people, not all straight people, not all men, are privileged and if you think that you're reinforcing the same discrimation you're supposedly against. Sure, there might be, proportionally, because of historical reasons/historical discrimination, more "straight white men" who are more privileged than most, but that's more about politics and thinking that way you are already discriminating against people just for being born the skin color they're born with, the sexuality and gender they're born with which we all know we have no control over. Radio is a Foreign Country, they have their own website, but it has never really worked for me. Music from all around the world.

Also recommend Radio Garden, which lets you listen to radios from all over the world. Sometimes it has featured "posts" with channel recommendations from people, like Brian Eno and such. It's one of the best things on the internet. They have an app as well.

soma.fm is the shit. Most of the channels are great, but there is no better place for ambient music than Drone Zone.

Lol, almost mentioned Tenhi in my OP, but I figured since they're Finnish no-one is gonna know them either way. One of my favorite bands.

E: Also have to point out, they have "official" translations for their lyrics on their website all the way up to the previous to last album, done by the band themselves afaik. They're not entirely a 100% accurate and they've taken some fairly big creative liberties in translating them, but close enough and since they're official I give them a pass. Cool to see they get appreciated abroad, they're not very well known over here back home.

Sometimes, yes, I absolutely agree, maybe even often. Not all songwriters, as great of a performer they might be for most of their songs, are the best performers for so many of their own songs. Good examples are Hallelujah by Leonard Cohen (Cohen after the first 3-4 albums wasn't IMO the best performer of his own songs) and Jeff Buckley's version; lots of Isaac Hayes' versions of other peoples' songs, most of all By the Time I Get to Phoenix

but the best example I can think of is A Song for You, written by Leon Russell, but Donny Hathaway takes it to a completely different fucking universe and makes it his own. That song is heartbreaking performed by him, Jesus.
