Nintendo pledges "action" over inappropriate use of its characters so players "not made to feel uncomfortable"
  • I'm a PC player but I always wonder when people have this take. I dislike, hugely, their treatment of fans in the preservation space. However, as a company they seem to not do big layoffs, rarely buy companies or IP, and have a history of leadership falling on their swords (financially) during hard times to keep their employees.

I don't dislike them as a whole because of those elements that are dead at large.

I could be wrong, I'm not deeply knowledgable outside of a handful of articles over the years.

I would rank Microsoft way worse though and I used to be in their ecosystem as a big fan. Biggest pusher of owning nothing.

  • Proton launches privacy-focused Google Docs alternative: Docs in Proton Drive is an open-source, end-to-end encrypted collaborative document editor
  • The guy who made the Backblaze software said it was already done and was easy for their standard client to work with Linux but never got rolled out because Linux users are power users. I wonder if that is the real reason when it comes to Proton. It's not unlimited but maybe there is some power user use that they anticipate and don't want to deal with.

  • An Enhanced Edition Of Star Wars: Bounty Hunter Hits Consoles And PC This August
  • ...will launch on PlayStation, Xbox, Switch, and PC this August. More specifically, it hits PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Switch, and PC (via Steam) on August 1. ..

Reminds me of when we had to grade each other's homework as a kid. Minimum word counts.

  • Here's what's happening to ad blockers in Google Chrome (and other browsers)
  • The new Declarative Net Request API is still a downgrade in capability compared to the older API, but the feature gap has closed significantly. If a certain website finds a workaround for ads that Manifest V3 extensions can’t block, then you probably should just switch browsers or stop going to that site. I would like to see the rules limit continue to increase, though.

Isn't that most of the web?

I enjoyed the article. I don't think it's coincidence that Google is going after adblockers at the same time as this is happening, despite suggested improvements that will come along with Manifest V3.

It could make things more secure from malicious extensions but in my experience people who install extensions tend to be a bit more savvy and people who aren't savvy tend to not use extensions. That's just my experience though.

I do think people should get paid for efforts so we can keep nice things that could be getting served to us by a small team. Websites I frequent for gaming info for example. But I only found those places by searching and sifting through sites with poor morals and I need a way to browse safely for that.

  • My opinion on Mastodon after 2 weeks...
  • Do you feel similar shortcomings from lemmy compared to reddit?

I apologize for not having more to add. I just find it interesting to see what others feel who swapped to mastadon and lemmy.

  • Amazon MMO New World Coming To Consoles With Major Updates
  • I've only tried Dark Souls once and my game kept reloading itself right before my death. Haha. I do plan to give Elden Ring a go though and would love to try Bloodborn if it ever came to PC.

If it helps, I think your in the majority. I have a feeling it's one I will drop after level cap. You never know though. I was one of ten people who played Warhammer Online until the doors closed.

  • Amazon MMO New World Coming To Consoles With Major Updates
  • I'll have a reason to try it out. As an outsider, it looks like the game is a testing spot for their next MMO but The Elder Scrolls Online has excellent controller support and I would love to see more. I had hoped it would be Guild Wars 2, but at least this gives me confidence the LotR MMO will have controller support.

I just hope they leave the current LotR MMO alone. It's not my game but those people are so so very nice each time I try it.

  • Here's A List Of Xbox 360 Exclusives Disappearing This July
  • You both asked and answered your question, wrapped in "we". I'm not doing a thing. I won't yuck other peoples yum though who find importance in it all. Perhaps being a piece of the historical aspect you mention is also important for some.

For myself, I do appreciate that some preservation groups are digitally filling up hard drives. I could be wrong, but it feels more sustainable.

  • Hideo Kojima's WandaVision review
  • If anything I thought the show treated her with kids gloves by the end. She did monstrous things to the people of the town. I cannot recall the exact line, it's been a while, but they described the type of torment it was.

  • How do you switch window focus while gaming?

I'm new to having Linux on my main rig. It's been about a month now. I'm hoping someone has a better way to handle focus while gaming.

I used to, on Windows 10, hit the Windows key to then fiddle with my panel and other opened programs (or alt+tab). In Linux Mint, I have the issue that the Super key doesn't focus the panel and menu, only the menu. I know the reasons for this but functionally It is what I wish it did.

On top of that, alt + tab yanks the cursor to the center of the game screen after initially swapping to the other program. Pushing the super key alone does this as well. But ctrl+alt+down does allow me to swap focus, but it isn't as quick to do.

I'm new so I'm thinking maybe there is a better way to quickly swap focus or even better to kill it from centering the mouse on the game occasionally when swapping around.
