Remember "Mars colony in 20 years" for the last 20 years or so? Well, some bad news about that. Or maybe good news if you're tired of bullshit peddling.
  • To be fair to the TBP trilogy..

    spoiler

Some civilizations have been fighting an endless transdimensional grudgematch to the point that successive inevitable dimensional collapses purge all the races that aren't hyper survivalist and also hyper advanced. The trisolarans are an example of a primitive civilization who's experiences have somewhat mirrored this extremely poisoned outlook.

  • The war is moving fast now.

This morning, Ukraine has issued evacuation orders up to 30km from the front lines around Novohrodivka in the Donetsk region. We might be seeing the start of collapses in Donetsk as the Russians push beyond the heavily fortified 2014 lines, and cut the Ukrainian defense in two. Meanwhile, in Luhansk, Ukraine is holding on by it's fingertips, and Russia is prying them away one by one, seemingly with deliberate intent of declaring the region liberated.

The Sudzha incursion is spreading Ukrainian troops thinner and thinner, while activating increasing numbers of Russian troops that were previously restricted to homefront-only operations. Ukraine has essentially double the number of enemy troops they are in contact with.

  • My concern is more what the impact of uncontrolled degrowth or sudden realignments of wealth and resources. The rich rarely suffer, but workers and the underclass in the global north might suffer badly if the pace of change is too fast to adapt to.

  • People align with their class interests. Class traitors are exceptional.

It's not surprising that someone with a keen understanding of the global north/south divide would do a complete full fascist 180 when they are shocked into realigning with their class (global north) interests. They understand that their entire body of work is still legit, it's just that their class interest is to now denounce it because they are horrified by the implications.

The truth is, the global south has no reason to be kind to the global north once the tables have turned. The global south has no guarantee of becoming socialist, only the potential opportunity. The only certainty of multipolarity and global south development is that living standards in the global north will sharply decrease as the disparity balances out, and that can only really happen via counter-imperialist forces that are opposing imperial market penetration.

Competent imperialists have to understand marxist analysis too, because it's the only lens of analysis that actually makes makes sense at different scales. That's why, when the mask slips, the liberal platitudes morph into zero-sum conflict theory materialist assessments on how to maintain the empire. The real evil of how to dominate markets is done via materialist analysis and disguised with liberal fluff.

How does a global north third worldist stay sane in the face of what might happen, what we've done to others, and what might happen to us when the tables turn? I don't know yet, it's scary, but I'm not going to become an imperialist cheerleader.

  • It's a Russian propaganda channel aimed at English speaking audiences. Don't take it as gospel.

They have to report truthfully to earn the trust of the target audience that is predisposed to mistrust them, however, the UK is an enemy nation and now they're swapping from white (true) propaganda to black (false) propaganda as agitprop against a hostile force.

They're not even doing it seriously, they're obviously having fun bullshitting and lying for a change because that isn't usual their task.

  • Chinese/North Korean "human wave" tactics are where you heavily arm a small number of infiltrators (we're talking each person is strapped with like 12 grenades, fastened onto a wooden board on your chest, or just sitting in a bag) and you sneak up close to a line/bubble of enemy defenses. You overwhelm them with a massive amount of firepower concentrated on a small area of their defenses, then rush in. If that team fails, another follows up and attempts to do the same. This minimizes casualties because you're exposing the fewest number of people to do the dangerous work. Once you've caused a breach, the other 50 soldiers you had hiding rush into action, pouring through the gap in the lines and attacking the enemy from inside their own fortifications in the confusion.

It's less of a "human wave" and more of a "human dam breach".

During the Korean war, this terrified US soldiers so much that they complained their M1 Garand rifles couldn't penetrate Chinese winter coats. In reality, they were either missing in terror, or just didn't have the time to react before they were forced to give up.

Add up how many hours you think you'll have free over the next couple of years to work on the project. Double it since you have no idea what you're doing. If you can live in it for that long while you work on it for half of your free time, go for it.

  • Russian troops seize Ukrainian chemical weapons lab in Donbass
  • If chemical weapons had been used at meaningful scales, it would have been known by now.

I think it's safe to say that these biological/chemical labs are big nothing burgers -- just small labs that were paid for by the US to keep experts employed so that they didn't wander off and sell their skills to people that might make use of them after the collapse of the USSR.

Going with the US state department line on this one, unironically.

  • Honestly it barely even matters anymore.

We've had over two years that have firmly established that Ukraine will never admit to fault, even when air defence missiles slam into apartment blocks, or land on people in foreign countries. Just ridiculous extraordinary lies that leave even their allies shocked by their willingness to deny the clear truth.

We've had over two years that have firmly established that Russia is playing things extraordinarily ethically and doing their level best to (unexpectedly) meticulously avoid civilian casualties when striking targets behind the frontlines. Certainly, far more ethically than "international community" involved wars over the past 20 years.

I have no doubt that the Russians didn't plan to terrorbomb a children's hospital.
