The USWNT take the field for the first time in 2024. <p>The United States Women’s National Team finally are set to take the field. Tonight, they play in their first ever W Gold Cup match when they take on the Dominican Republic. It’s the first chance of the year to show that the team has improved from a tumultuous 2023 that saw them have their worst ever finish in the Women’s World Cup and has seen a coaching change and the departure of a few legends. </p><p>The team they bring to the W Gold Cup is one that still has some legends, but the future core of the USWNT has also started to appear on this team. The hope is that a mix of youth and veteran leadership can be the perfect cocktail to claim the title. However, they still have to play the games, and standing in their way tonight is the Dominican Republic. They are in a position they have never been before, beating Guyana on Saturday to make it to their first major tournament. The W Gold Cup begins! <p>The 2024 Concacaf W Gold Cup is here! The tournament begins tonight at Dignity Health Sports Park with Group A action, and the first match pits Mexico against Argentina. Mexico is a team that has the talent to take the leap to the next level, and it feels like they are ready to make that leap. </p><p>Mexico had the disappointment of missing out on the 2023 Women’s World Cup and the 2024 Olympics in a tournament that they hosted (the 2022 Conacacaf W Championship), so now they have been building for their next opportunity. This is the knock of that opportunity, so La Tri is hoping to take advantage and make some noise in this group. </p><p>Argentina is one of the invited South American teams who can be very dangerous. They’re also going through a bit of transition, but much of the team that surprised many at the Women’s World Cup is back to try and bring the W Gold Cup home with them. Seattle Totems great Guyle Fielder, 93, received a long-awaited in-person tribute from the Kraken on Monday. Fielder is pro hockey’s fourth all-time leading point-getter – trailing only Wayne Gretzky, Jaromir Jagr and Mario Lemieux.

The Kraken forced overtime but surrendered an important extra point in a 4-3 loss to the Red Wings on Monday. The Kraken entered the game four standings points behind the second wild-card spot.
