  • Half of Trump votes and a bigger part of abstentions are a protest directed at the economic system that, in the aftermath of Covid, got rich people richer while most people got reduced buying power in the form of inflation.

Then surprise surprise: sh!t policies and more inflation. Can Trump keep control of this growing rage or…

  • Smaller companies that only handle logistics and delivery. But it’s been Amazon ways for a while that none of their subcontractors can grow. They will make it unpredictable so it’s difficult to invest and come back to handle things themselves if a local company come close to making a descent business. They will end the contract and move to a new subcontractor just to prevent a local company to grow and gain leverage. Just like they are aggressively against union.

  • There is multiple levels of problem from Quebec point of view. Quick delivery paid by Prime without Quebec infrastructure won’t happen. Why pay for it? General boycott of companies that a) pay taxes in the US and b) show support for the current US administration. Any money that’s not spent developing Canadian infrastructure is a problem with our sovereignty challenge.

Wallmart as most of the same issues. Shopify need his CEO to stop encouraging Trump, but sometimes it allow local business to sell directly to you. I would be interested in what works for you in term of alternatives.

  • Canada would be happy with most if not all of Europe’s privacy laws once we choose to ignore US interest.

Quebec has some decent parental leave and the current federal government (Liberal-NDP) wants a nationwide implementation.

Electricity could stay different just like UK didn’t use the Euro when they where member. Most other laws should be Europe inspired even if we ‘compete’ with the US deregulation. I would love agriculture related laws to be harmonized to the high standard in Europe.

  • I was kind of expecting this, thanks for your honesty. Many people in Canadian sub talk about NATO’s article 5, but the truth is nobody can send military gear to the nose of US navy and aviation across the Atlantic. An article 5 would be nationalization of US asset in Europe, reversing all investment in the US and maybe expelling the US from military bases in Germany. Not much would be done on Canadian ground.

Free media and journalists encouraged to dig deep and challenge things is a big part of democracy.

  • I had to do a double take when I saw Lemmy.ca spiked to 9.1k registered users

  • There isn’t room for multiple social media in my life and i will try with only Lemmy for a few months. I did came from r/BuyCanadian with curiosity more than the US boycott in mind. I plead guilty!

  • When can we expel the US ambassador until they stop with this 51st state nonsense? I don’t even see the point of discussing Nafta 3.0 if the clown can’t respect his own signature. We will take the temporary 30% cut to gdp and emerge stronger in a few years.
