  • This kind of justification isn't the end, but if a group are able to destroy the country then ideology is kind of moot... To be pragmatic this is like 4D chess and the end result has to be a working democracy. I used to say 'oh just let it burn down, its shit anyway' but this means peoples lives lost and spiralling chaos which can't really be predicted. I'd guess the chance of anything better emerging is very slim.

The best result now is that enough people realise what's happening and know that they MUST be politically active, must make a popular movement for peace, justice, truth, decency... All of the old values which seem out of fashion. There are more people who believe in those things but where tf are they? They're saying 'politics are gross' I don't want to be around that.

Ummm... THOSE people ought to be the ones doing politics! They ought to be the politicians.

  • That's interesting, I'd never heard of that before. I know that people who are aphantasic often still dream with vivid mental images, so, it like they aren't able to access them consciously and maybe the triggers help you in a similar way.

  • I get that you're disheartened but pick yourself up.

Do you know that the vast majority of people lived in absolute poverty, working every working hour for not enough money to eat?

That's really wage slaving, when you're too poor to have a home or even to rent a bed and you sleep stood up against a rope to stop you falling on the floor.

Or you can't make it and you go into a workhouse, separated from your kids and made to work for no money and given gruel to eat.

The way people got out of that hell was to organise, to fight, to keep fighting. That's how workers won ALL the rights which are normal in the west - minimum wage, no child labour, maternity pay... Every single decent law was fought for.

So don't tell me we or you have it hard right now, just because things are harder than you're used to and we're all scared.

We've had it easier all our lives and most of us didn't want to go out of our comfort zone to fight to make life better. Our chickens are coming home to roost now.

Let's try to lift each other up instead of demoralising each other.

  • Agreed its not likely but it's not possible to give up. I mean, it could and has been worse. We aren't slaves, our country hasn't been invaded, we aren't living in Russia... It could be worse and we can't give up or it will probably get worse.

  • Aphantasia?

I think there's more than one kind of imagination. It's like the opposite of 'thinking outside the box'.

Theirs is more like 'wow this box is big! I'm gonna get inside a smaller one'.

  • I've had some good conversations with local TUSC members collecting signatures and so on, I've a lot of respect for them but sadly the general public don't seem to. I think after the kicking by thatcher, unions and socialism in general are out of fashion. I do think there should be a broadly left party, allowing secondary membership maybe. Work on getting agreement on some issues, laser focus on what's most urgent and get decent people elected. I'd support any party with decent policies and which had the most chance of getting elected.

  • I'm tall and a woman. It makes me happy and feel kinda powerful that I could cause this situation and maybe even have since I've dated shorter guys and am oblivious to social stuff.

  • Those voters had already been brainwashed by fascists into thinking destitute refugees and asylum seekers were at the root of their problems instead of offshore bank accounts stuffed with their taxes, which should have been used to pay for public services and housing.

  • Its not only that but how the left has been marginalised, as what happened with the labour party in the UK - Jeremy corbyn, the old leader who was actually left wing has been barred from the party, which he was part of for his whole life. A lifelong anti-racist on the correct side of every issue has been smeared as being a racist and that is now the mainstream 'truth'.

The only left wing party of any size in the UK now is the green party. The only alternatives to business as usual labour/conservatives (same thing) are the greens (seen mostly as a middle class protest vote) or reform.

Labour are definitely not for the working class anymore.
