magic went live on Twitch. Catch up on their Magic: The Gathering VOD now.
Tl;dw shamelessly stolen from Reddit:
- "We all, WOTC and RC, reached this conclusion together."
- They are taking precautions to ensure the safety of RC members.
- They still want to keep it a community-driven format.
- Gavin plans to establish a committee similar to Pauper Format Panel. RC and CAG members are likely members.
- Aaron addresses the worries about profit-driven actions. "I'm also here for the love of the game(like RC).Yes Hasbro wants things. Yes my bosses wants things. I have a lot of freedom to do what I think is best. Our goal is to make things last forever. Keeping the community happy is our way to make money."
- They want to wait until the Panel is established to talk about the banlist. Beyond the initial banlist changes they don't want to make changes too often.
- Quarterly banlist updates similar to RC. It won't follow B&R of other formats.
- Power brackets: E.g. tier 1 swords, tier 2 thalia, tier 3 drannith magistrate, tier 4 armageddon etc.
- Aaron Forsythe used to play Armageddon 😱
- They aren't trying to replace Rule 0, they are trying to make it easier.
- At least 1 person from the CEDH community will be part of the panel. WOTC will still focus on casual commander.
- No separate banlists. Brackets will already do that job.
- Aaron: "4th bracket will be cards that you will rarely see in precons."
- Sol Ring isn't going anywhere. Sol Ring is "Bracket 0" so to say.
- Points system similar to Canlander is too complex and competitive for casual commander.
- Brawl in Arena already separates decks into 4 categories.
- Jeweled Lotus, Arcane Signet, Dockside etc. were mistakes. Cards that were banned recently are the kinds of cards they wouldn't want to make today. They want to reduce ubiquitousness going forward.
- They are discussing implementing more digital tools. E.g. you enter your decklist and it tells you your bracket.
- They want to release first Brackets article before MagicCon Las Vegas.
- Committee will be in the range of 10-20 people. There are also 10 commander designers working in WOTC.
- They are not tied to number 4. They can make a 5th bracket for CEDH.
- It is undecided whether the Committee will be anonymous. At least some names will be known.
- They can divide combos into different brackets: Thoracle combos bracket 4, SangBond+EqBlood bracket 3 etc.
- Gavin reads reddit a lot.
A statement on Commander and our vision for the future of the format.
Mark discusses the last year of Magic sets and answers your questions about the future of Magic design.
The recent bannings in Commander have had quite the impact on prices. And we're seeing a new archetype in Modern!
A new set has arrived, and players have been exploring the various Limited avenues ahead of the World Championship.
Camp Totally Safe is finally open after last year's... unfortunate incident. To celebrate, we've brought a new suite of Secret Lair drops that are sure to make you scream
I'm not exactly sure how important this is to how Commander is run as a whole, but it seemed to be making enough buzz that it was noteworthy. I guess we'll see whether business continues on as usual or if this prompts a response from the RC
While Secret Lairs and alt art cards have expanded the art styles on Magic card recently, anyone who misses some of the goofy art from classic Magic might like these
Mark concludes his examination of Duskmourn's vision design document, as written by Annie Sardelis.
Commander:
- Dockside Extortionist is banned.
- Jeweled Lotus is banned.
- Mana Crypt is banned.
- Nadu, Winged Wisdom is banned.

I want plushie Valgavoth now
Any amazing plays, great pulls or funny moments happen this weekend?
Went out this morning for a prerelease but couldn't get enough people to fire this morning, did manage to open an Overlord of the Balemurk though which made up for it. Might be able to make it back for the 2HG one this afternoon if I feel like it
We hear that it's dead a week ago and now it's "in production." What does that mean? Do they have a cast yet? Is this the same show from before?
Based on his description, The Jolly Balloon Man should really have been a sac + make a token Balloon copy, which I think would have been more interesting as there aren't a ton of Boros sac commanders
That is some gorgeous pixel art
It's very easy to make a mechanical clone of the game if someone wanted to play it.
This is purely about greedy crypto bros trying to grift off of Flappy Bird and using legal loopholes to steal the trademark
I think this is the patent IBM is suing over
Seems to be about pre-loading ads to a user's device. As with most software patents, it sounds like the vaguest possible wording that covers about a million things
Probably just nostalgia from The World Ends with You but I love seeing games set in Shibuya
Neat! Funny to think of the controversy this caused back in 1994
Posted in the fandom thread but MTGZone.com is around if you enjoy Magic the Gathering
!MTG@mtgzone.com - main community
!Spoilers@mtgzone.com - new card reveals
!art@mtgzone.com - MTG artwork
There are also format specific communities for Standard, Modern, Pauper, Commander, etc... but they don't see as much use
Man, what a mess. This site was doomed to fail
MTGZone.com for all things Magic the Gathering
!MTG@mtgzone.com is the main one but !Spoilers@mtgzone.com is hopping with Duskmourn reveals right now
Edit: also !art@mtgzone.com if you just want to see some pretty pictures
Played this years ago but couldn't quite get into it. Maybe I should try it again to see if it clicks
I love that it has its own Wikipedia article
This feels like another case of "I wish the story team had more episodes to work with." We didn't get to see very many of the houses horrors, nor much of any survivors in the main plot other than Winter. Razorkin, Cellarspawn and the Overlords all have really cool lore that we never got to see.
Also just straight up stabbing Valgavoth seemed... Too easy? Thankfully they didn't kill him but it seems like it should have taken more luck/planning to escape. But the temporary door was at least a cool solution, it would have made Valgavoth seem incompetent if they escaped through the door he made for Winter.
Speaking of incompetent, the fact that we have no idea why Loot, Vraska and Jace are on Duskmourn make them seem really stupid. And how are they going to get out, especially now that Valgavoth has Loot?
Even after Automattic acquired it, the site continued to lose money at a rate of $30 million each year, the company’s CEO Matt Mullenweg had said.
I still wanna know what they're spending all that money on, because I'm sure it's not developers or even servers. The idea that they can only be profitable if they're constantly growing their user numbers is an investor idea that's doomed to fail eventually and why so many social media sites are crashing right now
More backstory about the House and what happened with Mira! Also we meet the Cult of Valgavoth and that bad feeling I had about Winter finally pays off. Tyvar's turning out to be the MVP with how useful his transmutation magic is.
I do wonder how many main story episodes are left, given that the group is still split up and we have no idea where they actually need to go to escape the House or possibly defeat Valgavoth.
Wait, a solo dev with no experience other than RPG Maker games is making a highly detailed first-person 3D open world tactical strategy RPG with character customization, romance options and branching narratives? Sounds a little too ambitious to be true
Agreed on the red-flagging of abilities. Nadu had so many red flags it really should not have been allowed out untested. If the lands had even entered tapped it might have been okay but they missed so many possible limits on his abilities
