Crew 2 is on sale for a dollar on Steam, Epic, Xbox, & PlayStation until 23rd of September
  • You can add non-steam games to steam if thats what you mean. Theres a launcher called hydra which does, things. Playnite is a launcher I use that I plug all my other accounts in to and launch all games thru that. There are also ways to unlock dlc and stuff but that will require a little bit of research. Havent sailed the seas for games in a while.

TLDR; Yes you can add otherwise aquired games to steam. For the most part

  • My rent doubled in less than a decade
  • First moved out in the early 00s, rent was anywhere 75-150/w depending. Friends had 2 room units in complex for 95/w. Not even 2 or 3 years later rents were at 200-250/w. Now those same units wont be under 400.

I know airbnb and such arent the sole reason, but when they can rent out their house where nightly prices 350+ where rents are at least 400/w they can rent the place for not even 2 months a year and get the same as if they were renting it out the traditional way. So, naturually there are less longer term rentals available, pushing prices up. We have whole towns which are tourist areas where people cant get a house to live in because of airbnb shit. I'll liikely never own my own home because im paying at least 65% of my income on rent, how the fuck can i save. Fuel, food, energy. Everything going up except wages.

  • Anon sets the mood
  • Retention for 90%+ of providers is at least 4500 days for binary files and 110000 days for newsgroups. Have two providers, one monthly and one block, that run on different backbones with one that takes down for dmca and one that doesn't and you'll be fine. There are very very very few shows or movies that you can't get. Don't have to worry about VPN, ratios, trackers or any of that other crap.

  • EU antitrust chief to Tim Cook: Apple must allow third-party app stores
  • Don't you think app developers should have the freedom of choice for app stores? Android has multiple places to get apps, lots of FOSS apps aren't on play store, and likely aren't on iOS at all. Having the option for 3rd party store gives not just users, but developers too, an option and access to more apps/users that wouldn't otherwise be available. You want safe secure apps, that's all good.
You mentioned that an app might move away from the app store to a 3rd party store, if you already use and trust that developer's product how will having to get it from a different location change that?
Now, not to sound too harsh, but why your convenience of not having to go get another store more important than a devs ability to host their product in a different location?

  • WTF species of spider is this
  • These are perfectly harmless and live in colonies. Used to have these around growing up and let them crawl all over my hands. Most spiders in Australia are harmless, there's really only 2 or 3 types you need to worry about. Redback, funnel web and maybe white tip. The rest might hurt if they bite you, and of course an infection is possible if not cleaned but thats for any type of bite really.

  • If Arithemtic were debated like religion
  • Theism is a learned behaviour, taught to children. It is not the default position. Religion spawned from asking 'why' and since knowledge was limited in the before times superstition came to be. That's why most societies around the world have differring views on religion, if it was the default state there would be one religion not multiple.

  • GOP senator says Biden ‘may not be’ impeachable since he wasn’t in office during accused actions
  • Nah, i've seen that doco. He had to go back and kill himself because he got caught up in a mafia scandal and ended up getting jailed, as well as other actions that ended with the earth falling to nuclear war. He was shot at but because of complications the shot didn't kill him, so he had to go back and finish the job for the betterment of humanity.

  • Are phone notification LEDs still a thing?
  • causing radio interference if you receive a call near an active speaker

Oh damn, this just bought a flood of memories back from nowhere. That distinct sound that would comee out of the speakers right before you got a call. I don't think I even noticed that it doesnt happen anymore.

  • Risk of Rain Returns drops onto Steam and Nintendo Switch on November 8th, 2023
  • Control scheme/keybinds, better networking for multiplayer. Its a complete recode full of QoL changes not just a simple remake. I think they also added decent modding support as well given how the RoR2 modding community is.

  • I'm starting to wonder if they've thought this out.
  • They did. Can't remember the name of the documentary done flat earners made but the used a flashlight and two boards with holes in them at x distance and said if the earth is flat they should see the light through the hole. They couldn't until they lifted the board up confirming the earth isn't flat. Still had to make up bs to explain it though I think.

  • Finding mainstream media on usenet - am I doing it wrong?
  • It's recommended to have two providers, one for monthly and one block account, on two seperate backbones. I think /r/piracy or /r/Usenet has a list, and as whirlybird mentioned just add the show to sonarr and it'll eventually grab it.

If you don't have any *are suite I highly recommend getting that set up. Sonarr for tv shows, radarr for movies. It's all set and forget, just add the content you are after and the *are does the rest. You just add your indexer(s), add the provider(s) and you're sorted.

  • Firefox to become first mobile browser to support desktop extensions later this year
  • I find this take amusing. Blocking the ads means the content creator doesn't get paid for those ads since they won't get seen by those end users, but sponsor's have already paid the creator for that part. Whether you watch it or not the money has already changed hands, all it does is automate you skipping those segments.

  • Cult of the Dead Cow unveils 'Veilid', "a secure peer-to-peer network for apps that flips off the surveillance economy"
  • Ok. Cars can be used to ram raid buildings, to try to rip atm from walls. Used to package, carry and execute bombings. Should we ban all vehicles? Or better yet, guns. They can be used, and are used over and over again to attack and terrorise innocent people out at the shops or going to school. Should all guns be banned? The internet can be used to learn how to make bombs and other weapons for the use of terror. That doesn't even need to be anything special either, simple google searches will get you there. Should we ban the internet. I'm sure there are clearnet sites that post things that shouldn't be posted its not just on the darknet.

I do agree with your last point though. You can have full security or you can have full privacy but you can't have both. I think the main argument is because you value security more whilst myself and others value privacy more. Both, in my view are fair and valid.
