  • That is the moral thing to do. What I am discussing is that if they are interested in enforcing the law, as it is, they need to go after the businesses illegally employing them. That is not what they are interested in though, this is just a show of power.

  • Yes, if they really wanted to stop illegal workers they would hold the employers at fault for the charges. If they were actually worried about theft, and fraud, they would be going after employers and contractors, not the peasantry. This is just a violent display of who is on top, and demonstration of how small you are.

  • I got into anime when you had to go to shitty distributor conventions, in shitty city limits hotels, and walk through a big room filled with smoke, rifling through boxes of tapes, while greasy guys in cheap suits tried to talk you into buying shit. The other option were shoddily scanned, black and white, prints of distro catalogues you could order from. They would always be companies you never heard of, from buildings in weird places, and you could never know if you were actually going to get something, or just lose that money. The Sci Fi channel would have saturday morning anime, which would play, uncensored, stuff, but generally only the biggest hits. So it would cycle through Akira, Vampire Hunter D, Bubble Gum Crises, and about a dozen others.

It started to get a better at the end of the 90s, when you had a couple larger distros that came on to the scene, and you could reliably get what you paid for. They would also always have previews of other anime they were selling before the movie started, and it was likely set to some KMFDM track. Then in the 2000s is when it sorts hit a sweet spot, it was easy to get, there were multiple options on TV, and it hadn't quite yet become totally mainstream. Haven't really bothered with it much since then. Sometimes I will get recommendations from people I know I can trust to not be suggest the millionth iteration of watered down Fist of the North Star, fan service vehicles, or things that are just collages of bad anime tropes turned into a show.

  • The reason we got here wasn't "rugged individualism". It was part of a large, long effort, to find a better path to india. We weren't even the first Europeans that made it here. The reason we kept coming here is because aristocrats demanded people go there, and colonize to expand their empires. The reason the US and Canada aren't in a state more like Israel, is that the people we colonized had little defense to the diseases we brought. In fact, Desoto's campaigns to find more precious metals in the Appalachians, where he killed, raped, and enslaved his was through the region, in the name of Spain, happened long before the first solid colonies developed here, and this triggered an apocalyptic event to the people living their from the disease that the Spanish spread.

This bully theory is horseshit, and reducing reality down to a binary of you are either a bully or a pacifist is fucking stupid. Bullying is how to garner thin, short-term, control. People get tired of the bully, and turn on them, and the bully finds out it is now all alone when everyone is turning on them. That or everyone else grows and progresses their lives, while the bully stays as they are, and just fades into irrelevance.

  • You keep saying you, as If I am European.

Get off your fucking high horse and recognize that the US didn't just valiantly roll in with a superior military force and win WW2. Russia was a much larger contributor to the collapse of the Nazis. The US's primary front wasn't even the one the Nazis were on. The US got fucking lucky that it was geographically extremely difficult for otherwise occupied forces to attack, and therefore didn't get bombed into rubble, and due to that had all it's industrial infrastructure intact at the end of the war so it could immediately turn it around to rebuilding all these places, and thus having a massive influx of economic activity by virtue of placement on the globe. The military we built was based on the French, however the thing our culture did inform was the Nazis, we were a wonderful case study on how to execute an ethnostate, and genocide.

Jesus fucking christ it is like you took the movie Team America: World Police as a historical reality.

  • It is methadone, but that is just a synthetic opioid. They say it is slower acting, and not as euphoric, but that all changes when you bang it. Some places will watch you take it though. However most don't bother, they just want the money from the government and give you the pills.

  • I mean a less harsh version of that has been going on. Trump has ejected many people that used to be in his inner circle, and has, or has tried, to fire almost the whole federal government, too many people who got there without him to trust
