Summer Afternoon [OC]
  • Thanks! I appreciate it!

  • Life's A Picnic [OC]
  • Thanks! Honestly it is what I was going for!

  • Summer Afternoon [OC]
  • Glad to hear it! I'm lucky enough that not only does wallgreens still sell some, even though it's only Ultramax and they only ever have a couple rolls on the shelf at a time, but the local film lab/print shop near me that I get my developing and scans done at also sells new and expired rolls, I think it's making a bit of a comeback!

  • I've been in that area before so I can definitely see what you mean! This is at the La Cygne reservoir in Linn County, Kansas, the plant across the lake is the main power generation plant for Kansas City, MO and the lake itself is the artificial cooling reservoir for it. I always thought it was strange how beautiful the lake is even though it's only there to serve a big coal power plant. When I was growing up in the area back in the late 90s-early 2000s I would know we were getting close to home when I saw the old red and white smoke stacks across the lake,, they've since either been repainted or removed and replaced entirely though but old pictures on google show how it used to look back then. Took my girlfriend on a little road trip down there this summer to show her around and got this when we stopped for lunch in the county park/campground that's also there.

    Raddison [OC]
  • No worries, didn't figure it went too deep lol always seems like when I mention being from KC online people go right at the barbecue. I'm a fan having grown up with it but I understand to a lot of people it's too sweet or saucy, personally I like all the regional kinds, KC, Texas, STL, Carolina, etc.

Never been a huge sports guy so tbh the most enjoyment I get out of our superbowl wins is just getting off work early whenever they do the parade lol

  • Raddison [OC]
  • Dang dude, what did we do to you? Lol

  • Raddison [OC]
  • I don't believe it has for a while, I got to go up in it once maybe 15-16 years ago as my mom's ex boyfriend used to tend bar there for some time and he mentioned that it used to rotate but didn't anymore. I love the look of brutalist/utilitarian architecture so it makes it one of my favorite parts of the skyline.

Toilet Paper in an Unusual Place [OC]
  • I wound up putting another comment down below, I spoke to a friend of mine that also grew up there and whose parents still live there and have for quite a while, turns out it's a running joke from the property owners, idl what type of tp they're using or if there's some other roll of paper that looks like tp they put on but you're mostly correct, the original building burnt down a long time ago but the roll holder was left, so the property owners where putting on regular tp rolls as a joke, and have been doing it for about 30 years now, I assume they're using some kind of rolled wax paper now considering the condition it looks to be in so it doesn't degrade as fast but yeah, turned out to be just a running joke the owners do.

  • Toilet Paper in an Unusual Place [OC]
  • For those wondering, I just spoke to a good friend who also grew up in the same town and mentioned the traction this post got and he clarified that the roll is actually real, the holder is leftover from when the previous building burnt down decades ago but the property owners replace the roll on it every few years when it inevitibly decays and have been doing so for about 3 generations, hence why it was there when we were kids and still is now, it's just sort of a running joke/"urban legend" for the town.

  • Toilet Paper in an Unusual Place [OC]
  • I can confirm that other than the contrast and saturation being tweaked slightly because I can't stand when the color temp feels off in my photos, it's completely unedited, it's up there, and has been since I moved to that town when I was about 6, idk if it helps as proof but here it is on google streetview lol

  • Toilet Paper in an Unusual Place [OC]
  • The odd thing about it, the building it's on is currently a financial investment broker, there's a small mural lower down at ground level on the wall with various 1800s politicians, and that roll has been there since I was a kid and has been there about 22 years at least, up until the investment broker moved in a few years ago, the building was abandoned, it was owned by a real estate mogul who owned most of the buildings on the square but moved several states away decades ago and left the properties to rot, he died a while back and his children sold the properties off so things started opening and the roll is just... still there lol I have no clue if it's art, if it's a joke, or if it's real and decades of the elements just petrified it or something, the rumor around town when I was in elementary school was the building previously in that spot (there's a parking lot below frame now) burned down but the toilet paper roll survived and will be there until the end of time.

A classic landmark in my hometown. Toilet paper roll on the 2nd story outer wall of a 100+ year old building on the town square.

JD Vance's comment really riled up the vets who came to Walz's defense
  • It should probably also be noted that the impetus for the accusation is a misquote of him in a video where he said he approves of common sense gun control legislation to ensure that "The weapons of war which I carried, in war is the only place they will be" he did say it a little fast so the publications quoting him dropped the very necessary comma in that sentence and claimed he was saying he carried them during a war, neglecting the fact that with the comma, it makes sense grammatically, and without the comma it doesn't at all, which is a mistake I doubt a teacher would make, even if they were a social studies teacher and not an english one.

  • Ah thank you! I tried finding the correct term for them and was kind of stuck between Arcus, Volutus, and Morning Glory clouds but all the images associated with them didn't line up quiiite right, so looks like I went with the wrong name lol
