Only real use ive found for an old android phone was using it as a backup alarm clock. Surprisingly kind of hard to find alarm clocks that are as good as ones on a phone.
Another good use could be gaming handheld for emulators.
Emergency backup phone thats charged up in your car? Idk dude with the way phones are locked down and the difference across them, hard to really have any use afted security updates end uness you wanna patch your own kernal.
Ah yea i see how that would be an issue. Someone else in this post made a comment about switching meds. Might be worth talking to your doc about it.
That said, its not uncommon for those of us with adhd to try to find dopamine when doing things we dont wanna do. Sometimes having a video on in the background can help and distract your brain a bit. The key is finding something that doesnt distract you too much.
As someone with ADHD and who also works from home 4 days a week, alarms are your friend. I have specific alarms set for tasks i need to get done every day aside from my main duties.
Depending on your job, setting up automations can also help. Anything to make your life easier will give your brain more bandwidth which ive found helps me focus better. For me, i have a script that automatically refreshes a webpage that i need to monitor all the time. I always keep this tab separate so that when it does refresh, i almost always notice.
Me personally, i like maptool. You can self host it and make a server for everyone to join.
Its not the prettiest or the absolute easiest to use when you first open it up, but you might give it a chance if you like open source projects and the privacy that comes with self hosting:
And thinking about it now, i was watching Netflix with my GF the other day at my place using her account, didn't look like 480p at least. That said, hard for me to tell since my internet rn is limited and i stream most things at 480p, sometimes 720p if its a good day.
I'm probably not the best barometer for stream quality give my situation. Atm I'm just glad it works.
I'm using firefox with drm content turned on and thats all I've done.
Not netflix no, after one of the price hikes a couple years back i dont subscribe to them anymore. Hulu worked fine if i remember correctly. Hbo works fine for me rn.
Believe me, this isnt the "i got a song stuck in my head" thing.
This is "I have a very specifc part of a song stuck in my head that repeats over and over again at nauseum" thing. It continues to be my measure for whether my meds are working or not.
Welcome friend! I hope your experience is as good as mine with taking meds and living with ADHD.
I never knew i had it until I was 23 and wadnt officially diagnosed until I was 26. I spent my whole life thinking I was lazy, stupid, and blamed all the other things that my ADHD created like anxiety and depression.
I went to 2 psychs, one said i had depression which yea no shit, you'd be depressed too if you couldn't do anything and wanted to do everything all at the same time for over 20 years, but the second psych i went to immediately recommended ADHD meds given all the symptoms i told her about as well as all the things i had already tried or was currently doing and still do to this day.
Its been an experience learning to not only do what I love/need to do but also rest. Part of me wants to go forever but if I dont rest, ill burn out. Overall its beem very positive for me. My mood is better, I can focus, I dont hear bits of music on reapeat every day all the time, I CAN THINK.
Absolutely life changing. I feel like i got off easy, first med I tried (generic adderall) has worked very well for me. Only noticeble side effect is I'm less hungry which is fine because i like to intermittent fast anyways.
I like that, some YouTube video i came across had the sentiment that it was ok to be a renaissance man, jack of all trades kinda deal. I liked that a lot since i have a few different hobbies and im not particularly great at any of them but im good for the most part.
Made me feel like i didn't have to be perfect and it was cool to just be doing stuff.
If i can figure it out I'll be sure to post something lol.
So far, i found a python project that is supposed to enable RAG but i have yet to try it and after a reinstall of my linux pc to Popos, im having less than success getting ollama to run.
Me personally, i use my AMD 7700XT to run ollama on my main pc. Can be helpful for troubleshooting as the internet gets worse amd worse to search especially if i dont know what the issue is. Thats my main use case for it but id like to set up something with RAG and use it to help me with documentation if i have questions.
I don't think its super worth it to use a VPS for an LLM if you already have a decrnt gpu that you can run it on. If yoy dont already have the hardware, plenty of older gpus can run the models pretty well. My 1070ti still kicks ass all these years later and you can find them for $100 bucks or less on ebay used. Ive used it for ollama as well and it does just fine.
Will it be super fast or a really big model? No, but if its for personal use, i dont see any benefit to paying a monthly subscription for it and like i said, works well enough for me.
Its also more secure and private to host it yourself if thats worth anything to you. Thats one of the biggest reasons i self host.
