"Will you vote for Biden in the 2024 election?" [Y/N]
One side is working to dismantle democracy. The other side is not. If you don't vote blue you are enabling Republicans to enact Project 2025. You would enable Republicans to take away rights from LGBT people in America. You would enable abortion bans and enable even more of the genocide in Gaza. You would enable Republicans to do all the types of stuff listed in the meme, and they will try.
I am convinced some of the far left that won't vote for Biden because of the war in Gaza are being influenced by Republicans. I wouldn't be surprised if some of those people are Republicans trying to get people not to vote for Biden. It may not be an ideal situation, but if you don't vote for Biden because you think he is handling the war in Gaza horribly, you are doing exactly what the Republicans want you to do. Maybe someday we'll be able to vote for someone better than him. But for now, you have to understand the reality of our two party system, and deal with it. At the very least, don't do what the Republicans would want you to do: staying home rather than going out and voting for Biden
For all their many flaws: Democrats leave office without attempting coups when they lose.
Republicans now know they can elect a functional fascist if he has a little popular support. Democratic institutions may not be lucky enough to hold again.
They support candidates in the other party that do attempts coups, just so voters are forced to vote for them instead of the other party. Hilary's support for Trump in the primaries, should be seen as threat of violence towards the voters and seen as fascism. All the problems with Trump are problems that Democrates are to blame. They are not responsible for other Republicans maybe, but they are responsible for Trump. Trump is a Democrate candidate in the Republican party.
In 2020, 80 million didn't vote. How do you fix that?
Bullshit. Democrats have made their disdain for democracy absolutely clear by preventing other candidates from even getting on the ballot in the primaries. I'm not defending Trump, but if Biden loses, he has only himself and the other ghouls in the Democratic party to blame. You can't run on protecting democracy while simultaneously sabotaging it.
It's not on the voters to hold their noses and vote for someone who should probably be in a nursing home and very likely won't live long enough to finish his second term. It's on the Democratic party to allow candidates people want to vote for to participate. All this blaming of voters for wanting to sit this one out or vote third party is just so much bootlicking of the establishment.
One side is working to dismantle democracy. The other side is not.
WHAT DEMOCRACY ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT? The one that enables your country to fund a genocide across the globe DESPITE the outrage of it's citizens and the... WHOLE WORLD?
You would enable Republicans to take away rights from LGBT people in America. You would enable abortion bans and enable even more of the genocide in Gaza.
How you can enable MORE genocide? People are finite, you either commit genocide, or you don't. Or you think with your tiny fucking libbrain that SMALL GENOCIDE is totally okay?
But for now, you have to understand the reality of our two party system, and deal with it.
Yeah, sure, do not try to change anything, just deal with our shitty system because there's no other option. Jesus fucking Christ...
The electoral Congress decides who's president, though. Why shouldn't I as a far-leftist vote third party to express my discontentment with a democratic party that only wants to appeal to the right? I'm tired of people telling me Biden is good enough when we had a actual progressive who had a shot just a few years ago. The climate can't wait, and the Palestinian people certainly can't. A placid, centrist left in the face of fascism looks useless to me I'm not sorry. Read a fucking history book.
People often say that voting third party is throwing away your vote, but using your vote as a protest like you describe is perfectly valid. Politicians from the major parties do care about how they can appeal to swingable voters, and third parties getting more votes does makes them more influential for future policy. You give up having influence between the two people who actually have a chance in the current election, but realistically you didn't in the first place if you don't live in a battleground state.
It's your vote. Don't let other people chide you for not spending it on what they think you should. Just use it for a cause that's worthwhile to you. It's the people who don't vote at all that get ignored.
You had an actual progressive years ago...yes. You don't have one this year.
You say the climate can't wait...so which path is better: 1 - push for net-zero carbon emissions by 2050, invest $2T in green tech and infrastructure, OR 2 - boost oil and gas production, roll back environmental regulations
Palestine can't wait...which path is better: 1 - publicly support Israel while pressuring them to limit civilian casualties, work towards a cease fire OR 2 - sending ICE to break up pro-Palestinian protests in the US to remove any protesters here illegally, implement ideological screening as part of the immigration process, stoke anti-muslim sentiment here and abroad.
Read a fucking history book? The Repub is using the same power-consolidation strategy as Hitler, there's Nazis chilling at cpac, LGBTQ folks are being targeted by Republicans across the country, burning books, politicians changing the contents of history curriculum...they say history doesn't repeat itself but it sure does rhyme. Well, this is straight-up plagiarism.
Voting for a third party with no chance of winning takes away a vote from the candidate from the 2 major parties who more closely represents you.
You're not just doing a protest. If you believe in left values, you're making it one vote harder for the left to win and one vote easier for the right.
Would you rather the opposition win and we lose democracy or more rights so you can prove your point?
It's downright selfish imho.
I don't disagree with the intended meaning of any of this
However, it would be more effective with increased clarity if the text were revised to state that he "Didn't expand the Supreme Court beyond nine, and did not appoint those additional new justices" or even simply "Did not increase the size of the Supreme Court" or something like that. Because he did appoint Kentanji Brown Jackson to SCOTUS, and people will point that out under your current writing of it which will derail discussion of the actual points. Revising the text will foreclose the possibility of that derailment
Looks like a little edgy eddie forgot all about violent insurrection ending in several deaths to overthrow a legal election.
Ooopsie
One side is working to dismantle democracy. The other side is not.
Both "sides" don't give a fuck about people or democracy, both the red and blue party support dictatorships around the world, genocide and unjust wars. If you vote red or blue you are giving your vote to corrupted criminal murderers with blood on their hands. If i don't support Stalin in WWII it does not mean that i'm supporting Hitler, the choice is yours! Not voting for red or blue does NOT mean voting for the other color.
If my choices are veiled fascism or open fascism I'd rather have it out in the open so we can fight it.
The far left isn't voting because electoral politics are a distraction from actual revolutionary action. While y'all are too busy choosing the lesser evil that will eventually "compromise" with the worse evil because "we need a strong republican party" the far left is taking more direct approaches.
You don't consider canceling primaries for a state that habitual votes against party favorite to be dismantling democracy?
Not even a couple cycles after the dnc's lawyer told a judge primary votes don't matter and they can appoint anyone and the judge agreed?
They're not equally bad, but at this point it's hard to call either democratic
Which will depress turnout, even if the people trying to earn you still vote for Biden
staying home rather than going out and voting for Biden
I'm not going to stay home. I'm going to go to the polling place and leave that part empty on the ballot.
Here's the bottom line: I cannot bring myself to officially support someone who I admit is an active supporter of genocide. Listen to yourselves. You are literally saying that I should feel bad because I won't support someone who is actively supporting genocide. They are carpet bombing children, intentionally starving them, denying them medical care, all because of their ethnicity. He is expediting military aid to make sure they can.
I wouldn't vote for Hitler just because I believed his opponent was worse. The reason I wouldn't vote for Hitler is because of the genocide. I have to draw a line somewhere. If anything, I should probably have drawn it somewhere before genocide.
BTW, I'm not saying you're a bad person if you do vote for Biden, or even that I'm somehow better for not. I get it. I just can't bring myself to do it.
[Edit: Americans, if you're thinking of replying to me, consider instead or additionally going to Ceasefire Now and writing to your representatives. Maybe if there's an end to the genocide before November I'll be willing to vote for Biden.]
I hope you gain the knowledge to see the bigger picture before November. Allowing Trump to win guarantees that the genocide continues and even grows. Biden, at least, is reasonable and not bloodthirsty. Work with the system so that you can change it. Because the alternative is to burn us all down for your own hubris and lack of awareness.
Just a heads up that site picked the wrong district for me. The actual house site understands my zip is split between two districts (based on county lines) but this site picked the wrong one.
so, out of curiosity, what has biden accomplished (or any one, really,) done to stop any of that?
so far, the only thing he's successfully achieved is... increasing the DoJ's focus on domestic terrorism. which, is something, I guess.
After three years of this shit getting worse; why should we believe Biden is able to actually stop it and protect our democracy? it took him two and half, or so, years for him to get the DoJ to assign Jack Smith to investigate trump for Jan 6, and documents, and stuff.
Under Biden we have student load forgiveness, we have a better ftc that actually investigates shit, we had an actual climate deal, and we have support for Ukraine, and have an investigation on trump. With trump we have none of that. We get total facism.
Also voting and protest/revolt are not mutually exclusive. At least under Biden we might not have to become a full on fascist state in the next year.
bOtH sIdEs
Man I just want to vote for a better candidate not strategically vote so the worst one doesn't get elected. Why tf isn't Trump in jail yet
Sometimes life is about making the least worse decision rather than the best one.
They had four years to prosecute him. At some point they're either stalling to make it an election issue, which is disgusting, or they're trying to run out the clock on the public's anger so they can look effective while avoiding angering his base. Which is also disgusting.
Then push your local reps to explore Ranked Choice voting.
Because if Biden moved any faster there'd have been zero reason to vote for Biden in 2024...
There should be zero reason to vote for Biden because he said he would be a 1 term president and should have used the time to push new voices of other members of the Democrat party up into the spotlight while working on big policy plans even if they wouldn't go through.
Instead even the vice president disappeared of the face of the earth and the DNC is considering Governors Newsom and Whitmer as replacements for Biden if he dies in office.
They waste so much time and do so little to actually make an impact in the minds of voters.
Trump will for sure encourage a true genocode of palestine. remember the kurds he abandoned to Syria/Putin? remember the muslim ban?
I hear you, but fucking over the Kurds after they stuck their neck out to ally with us has been an American pastime for decades.
This is the insane part to me. Everyone is just jumping on the opportunity to cheapen the word genocide, so when Trump gets a roll, I guess we will have to come up with a whole new word. Super genocide? Genocide, but not like that other one? Genocide with seven pieces of flair?
Dude, Bush abandoned the Kurds; Clinton ignored them; Bush Junior used and abandoned them again; Obama did it a third time; Then Trump did it.
Hell I wouldn't even be surprised if the US abandoned them again. They aren't. They told us in 2003 that our leaders would abandon them but they were thankful for the temporary help.
Not sure if a true genocode is occurring now, or not…
Wtf you saying? A lot more happened in syria under trump than before him. Barack was wasting time allowing isis to grow. And once isis was defeated america pulled out. Probably one of the few good news that came out of syria. What did biden do? he put sanctions that were supposed to hurt assad, but instead hurt the people who can barely afford to eat.
Don't forget getting rid of Medicare, raising taxes on people making under $90,000 a year, dismantling the IRS, and just full on fascism.
Don't forget defunding EPA and clean water programs, and the delay/added damage is costing a lot more in American tax monies. Except it's during the Dems term so Republicans are happy to make things expensive, and whine about it until they can get back into office and do nothing about it.
Hey but what about a potential 7 or 8 vote conservative SCOTUS majority? Fuck it, if Trump gets his immunity ruling, he will just start assassinating justices, senators, even snarky customer service reps!
That will surely be a speed bump on the road to socialist utopia
the united states officially supports apartheid on multiple occasions. private entities in the united states supported fascists and nazi's alike and there is a new iteration of them taking the stage. the democrats are not really stopping them now are they? how would trump simultaneously raise taxes and dismantle the agency that collects those taxes? wut? there are people making less 10k/year under a democratic majority. you explain to them why they should care that people making 80k are gonna get taxed more? especially when those 80k/year people ignore or denigrate the people working harder than them for less and don't even have the social standing to bitch about it effectively
"Will you vote for Biden in the 2024 election?" Yes
Maybe I'm just getting old, but I have no problem seeing the vast difference between the two choices we're going to be given in November.
No matter how much the children in the room piss and moan, there are realistically only two choices - 3rd party candidates only exist to spoil it for whomever they're ideologically closer to of the two "real" candidates. Furthermore, Biden has turned out better than I expected - and I'm a Bernie Sanders kinda guy!
100% agree. Biden was my last pick, but he has ended up doing a good job - especially in the current political environment.
I guess I'm the opposite. I hate how the DNC torpedoed Bernie in 2020 and will not forgive them until they support someone more progressive.
I make a decent amount and am fairly confident in my job security (even with the rapid pace of LLM's). So I'm fine watching the world burn for the next 4 years.
Are you fine with watching everyone else burn with it? Seeing people die, tortured, and forced to give birth?
"Will you vote for Biden in the 2024 election?"
Primary? No. General? If he makes it.
The current electoral phase is the primary, which is what those voting 'Uncommitted' are involved in. You have to understand this the first, last, and only phase in the presidential election cycle where voters have ANY say, even the possibility of it, on influencing executive policy for their party.
Anyone thinking criticism of Biden in a primary is the same as supporting Trump in the general is delusional and demonstrably doesn't understand the electoral process for president.
Are people like OP really concerned about Dean Philips or Marianne Williamson becoming the democratic party candidate? Because that is the phase we are in: internal party primary elections. People are trying to shape the Democratic Party platform through a democratic process and there is all this blowback that amounts only to "B-but Trump!"
That perspective relies on a misunderstanding, willful or not, of American Presidential election cycles.
Though I still am hedging my bets that at least one of the general election candidates keels over in the next 6 months.
Another reason why ranked choice voting is much better. There's only 1 vote and everyone can be on the ballot without fear of wasting your 1st vote and supporting the worst candidate.
Splitting it into just two different votes at two different times of year confuses people and is significantly worse and offers less choice.
Y
Don't worry, a bunch of fucking idiots think not voting is the solution, turning what could just be 4 more years of "definitely not good" into a toss up with "holy fucking shit I didn't know it could be this bad".
The vapid motherfuckers doing everything based on principles without taking reality into account is how the left always seems to get so little done.
Ahh shit, I didn't know it was the people with principles that are to blame for the left! I think the disconnect comes from the prioritization of which "Reality" you're referring to. If you take the reality of the MIC, Climate change, Class warfare, Political Polarization, Government corruption, etc.... Well your "Political Reality" feels like someone arguing over the driver seat while the car is free falling off a cliff. I'll be voting this coming election but I'm under no pretense that voting or the system itself actually works (popular vote and all), so I won't judge those who choose differently. It is still a democracy after all right? People get to choose what they do still? Or can we stop that charade and all admit it's lost already if it's "vote blue no matter who"?
Yup, it's the people with moral platitudes smelling their own farts thinking that they're taking the highest path and everyone around them are just morally inferior bigots that hold back the left. The ones that propose lofty goals, aspire to dream of the perfect world, and then when are asked how to get there always answer "I don't know but we have to!" or "Fight the rich!" - Well that's just dandy little Timmy but do you have a policy idea? Something we can reasonably campaign on to put into law or are you just giving us your ideological end point?
Fucking worthless. Less than worthless.
You don't get to abstain from the system, you merely get to choose how you participate. Not voting is still participating no matter how much you feel like it might be a protest against it. Plenty of people don't vote, we still have elections. Trump won, we didn't get better Democratic candidates. Your current choices are to vote blue and kick the can down the road, vote red and succumb to evil, or don't vote and reassure yourself there's no blood on your hands however it shakes out. You want to change the system? Great! Another lofty ideological goal.
Got a reasonable idea on where to start? Of course not. Fucking worthless.
Reality is gritting your teeth and making uncomfortable choices knowing it's the best you can do right now. It's understanding you can't make the choice you want because you don't have the means. It's having to pay for medical bills when you really wanted that new TV. My brother I have so many political dreams, the chief among them being UBI, but I'm well adjusted enough to know I have no solutions on how to make it reality. So I just dream about it. The difference is I realize what my dreams are without solutions.
Fucking worthless.
I didn’t know it was the people with principles that are to blame for the left!
Now you know. You're welcome.
Aaron Bushnell was a moron. He should have waited to self-immolate after the election, that way he could still vote for Biden.
Obvious /s.
Y
given all Biden is doing for women with abortion and ivf, he’s getting kids breakfast and lunch money, he’s helping reduce college loan disasters, Medicare is going after pharmas that price gouge, he’s the first president ever to join union members on the picket line, I could go on and on.
And yet, he doesn't get much credit for it and I don't understand why...
I give him credit on student loans. Most Democrats would have given up forever at the first setback. Biden didn't.
Please start your comments with the following question answered at the top
Nice try, FBI
"Do you condemn Hamas?"
I remember signing up for army back in the day. One of the questions were:
"Are you a terrorist?"
Yes ___
No ___
I wish. Heared they pay good money.
Maybe Trump should have a word with them, since he has has some issues in that department recently...
And here I am, doing this shit for free :D
Y
Fuck Biden, and fuck the DNC, may they rot in hell, but Trump would be worse for people I love and care for.
My only hope is that the GOP implodes due to infighting, and the DNC splits into a leftist and establishment group of parties, so that we can choose between a leftist and a liberal, not a liberal and a fascist.
It's crazy how much energy is already being put into blaming voters for being turned off by an undesirable politician.
Usually this happens after an election.
Biden supporting genocide WILL disengage voters regardless of how bad the other guy is. His decision to support genocide will hand Trump the presidency on a silver platter.
If someone kicks their dog, the dog responds by biting the fucker, and the fucker responds to the bite by giving the dog away to some other fucker who kicks the dog even more... are we really going to criticize the dog for biting fucker#1? How about don't kick the god damned dog??
Trump supports the Isreali genocide and also wants to do the same thing at home with immigrants.
Biden supporting genocide WILL disengage voters regardless of how bad the other guy is. His decision to support genocide will hand Trump the presidency on a silver platter.
Trump supports the genocide more. And locally, he wants to throw migrants into camps. See the bigger picture
You legit just said “Trump supports the genocide more", and then probably felt like you had moral superiority in the argument. Do you understand how insane it is that you’re arguing over who is more genocidy?
It doesn’t really matter who you vote for, because if the US is at the point where they’re voting based on who is going to kill less people, then the country is already a fascist state and all hope of turning that around is lost. You’re all just fighting over what flavor of fascism you get.
And locally, he wants to throw migrants into camps.
Biden is doing that right now...
So did Obama...
And trump does not support Israel genocide more than Biden. trump would want something out of it. Biden needs nothing in return
This is the danger of running Biden. As bad as trump is, Biden is also shitty.
We could have locked in a dem.win by running a halfway decent candidate that isn't two decades past retirement age.
It didn't stop people from voting for Obama. It didn't stop people from voting for Clinton. What makes you think Biden will be treated any differently?
"voters are stupid, don't blame them for that."
"Will you vote for Biden in the 2024 election?" Yes
For anybody saying no, I would like to know what radical action we were all supposed to have taken in 2021 to the present that would have fixed America, or how revolution will be easier under a Trump presidency, or what specific plan the vast majority of leftists and progressives wants to enact
A lot of people do, but they won't. That's not really what the original commenter was asking though.
People that participate in our democracy not knowing the basics of how it works is getting exhausting. The DNC doesn't "pick" canidates: voters do. The DNC absolutely throws its support behind preferred candidates, but voters still make the final decision.
"Pick someone else" also smacks of "I want someone else to do the hard work and find a viable alternative candidate for me, because I can't be bothered to put actual effort in to the political process." Nobody is stopping you from campaigning for your preferred presidential candidate in the primary -- or even running yourself if you're eligible.
Exactly. The DNC is responsible for the last trump presidency, they will be responsible for the next one.
Just to be clear: These issues largely are relevant for a LOT of Western Nations, so Here we go:
If you can't afford things, paying your mortgage with a Credit Card is a bad choice - it will get way worse, way faster. Printing more money with Government Bonds is absolutely skyrocketing inflation, and trying to print more money to keep this thing going is going to get extremely bad, extremely quickly and it's already bad - like really bad. It's time to start pulling in the belt and looking to cut.
In Ideal - the money supply over the next 10-20 years needs to drop by around 50% if not 75%. That would induce negative inflation: MAKING THINGS AFFORDABLE FOR AVERAGE PEOPLE WITHOUT HAVING TO FIGHT WITH INCREASING MINIMUM WAGE. And ya - the Neoliberals and NeoCons will fight you tooth and nail. And hell, the NeoMarxists will probably complain because you are making their job of convincing people "Capitalism = evil, Socialism = Good" really god damn hard. And I say: If you piss certified mainstream economists off? You might be on track for something good.
The Amount of Government Beurocracy growth there has been in the last couple of decades? Simplify the laws, Simplify the codes, make it easier to file taxes for the average person. This will reduce the cost of operating these agencies - and in some cases? Reduce it by A BLOODY TONNE. It will also reduce lawsuits relating to these issues, which again: Saves money.
Beyond this (this is america specific just to be clear): Start closing down foreign military bases. If you have 5 bases in a country, cut it down to 4, or even 3. Use the savings to pay your service members you have better, improve recruitment programs, and cut some of the spending. Be selective in where you do this - but signal to the world that you need to be efficient. Nations need to invest in their own defence.
In the US: The issue is largely Illegal Immigration. In Canada: It's Legal Immigration rubber stamped by a Government that seems hellbent on destroying this nation for the sake of virtue signalling. And people are fed up with it.
Beyond this: If an immigrant breaks the law? expel them from the country, give them a 5 year ban from entering, and call it a day. For Permanent residents - have a warning system: Minor infraction? Warning, Warning, Expel. For Criminal activity - revoke the permanent residency and boot em out immediately. Don't spend money on imprisoning them: Just kick them out of the nation.
I'm sorry but: Basically every developed nation has this. Democrats need to get overthemselves and implement it. Otherwise, what it looks like - true or not - is that Democrats in certain area's want Illegal Immigrants to be able to vote.
You know who managed to do about half of this? Trump. Want to know why there is a rather large section of people who are going to vote for him? Because of this.
You know who the mainstream media hates? Trump. You know who the mainstream media has vilified for like 8 years straight at this point? Trump.
Run someone, run a platform with these points being true and you will win the election. And probably by a bloody landslide.
I'd like to ask how immigration is a problem to you? Immigration means a larger workforce and more value in the economy. If immigrants are "taking jobs" and making people unemployed as many people like to say, that isn't a problem with immigration, that's a problem with the way our economy has always been set up. Being out of a job and unemployed shouldn't destroy your life, take away your healthcare and education, etc., and in civilized countries they don't have nearly as much of an issue with that. So is it something else? Is it being against cultural diversity?
Undocumented immigrants also can't vote in state or federal elections. VERY FEW municipalities allow undocumented immigrant voting, so few in fact (17 to be exact, if you include ones that only allow them to vote in school board elections, like SF, Oakland, and Chicago) that it's absolutely a non-issue.
BTW many EU countries allow non-EU citizens to vote (Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, Slovenia, Lithuania).
I'm also curious as to which "half" that Trump accomplished that you're referring to. Spending was extremely high under Trump. He was KNOWN for making national debt skyrocket, increasing government spending a ton in order to tax the rich less, fucking up foreign relations including trading which set up a terrible future for prices. And all of this without even facing a pandemic. The economy complex and the answer to its problems isn't just "stop printing money lol".
Trump also, completely contrary to what he campaigned on, does all he can to increase illegal immigration. He did absolutely nothing to stop or reduce it, he just used it as something to convince people to vote for him. It's been decreasing since Obama and Trump didn't contribute at all. Meanwhile, Trump has been actively working against introducing legislation on immigration because he doesn't want Biden to get good press, he has influenced Republicans directly to kill multiple bills that would contribute to controlling immigration.
That only leaves voting, which Trump heavily worked against... He definitely did really want to make more states ID voters, but not because of some goal to make voting more fair or streamlined – he actually put much of his effort making sure voting WASN'T fair or easy, and tried making voting much more of a pain in the ass, especially for poorer and marginalized people, to lower voter turnout – it was to encroach on peoples' right to vote by making it have an extremely high personal cost. Naturally people who are far more well off and have a lot of time, people who are privileged, which are generally people who vote Republican, will be the ones who can afford to put the time and effort and money in.
I'm not going to argue with you too hard because you clearly are a big Trump fan (Not only do Trump's policies align with yours more than Biden, but you seem to have a cult of personality thing going)
But I will agree with you that it would be great if we spent less money on our biggest expense, war. Cut all funding to Israel, make huge cuts to border patrol, cut our department of defense down to a fraction of what it currently is, demilitarize the police...
We can keep going, too. End meat subsidies. End grain subsidies....
I don't know if mainstream media hates Donald Trump, Fox News sure loved him. And the only powerful political figure I can think of who got fewer CNN Town Halls than Donald Trump is Jeffrey Epstein, who I also hear mainstream media hates.
To clarify: fuck Trump 75%, and fuck Biden 25%. Does that work for everyone?
This is what I use:
One is Rusty Shitbox, the other is Radioactive Rusty Shitbox that is ALSO on fire.
In those circumstances I will vote for Rusty Shitbox every fuckdamn time.
Weird how that makes it seem like the people trying to make things better are the ones responsible for making things worse. It's almost like the whole system was set up to give us two horrible choices and make us think the lesser evil is actually good. That way we won't try to really fix anything ourselves and just get angry at the people who do for "wasting their votes". No hate to anyone who thinks this way just sharing another perspective.
I'd rather have Biden than Trump. But I'd rather have Dr. Cornell West or Claudia de la Cruz more than either of them by a lot. Hell I'm probably going to vote for one of them. I live in Maryland, a blue state that'll go to Biden anyway. If anybody has a problem with that, I don't care 🤷
The best time to plant the tree you wish to rest under the shade of was several years ago. The next best time is now.
I don’t care.
The rest of us do. So… we’ll keep the ship floating for you.
You to figure more people would be clued in to the fact that fascism is enabled by apathy. But here we are.
Yes, reality can be hard to deal with. Over here in the real world, you’re choosing between Biden and Trump. Pretty much everyone here agrees with you that it’s not ideal. In your ballot there will be several candidates, but they are all either Biden or Trump. Guess who Dr. Cornell West is?
Weird how that makes it seem like the people trying to make things better are the ones responsible for making things worse.
That's what happens when you're trying the wrong things.
I'm going to vote so hard, that'll teach 'em
Ohh look a picture of what's happening right now.

I don't begrudge the people who don't want to vote for him. For those who see their vote as support and complicity, I understand the reluctance. If Biden suddenly said fuck gay and trans people tomorrow, I would not be a happy camper. I would not be happy voting for a politician who hates gay people and deny them their rights.
But I would still do it. And I hope everyone who doesn't want to vote for him still comes around in November to reluctantly do so.
I am not a man of any faith, but prayers for a timely stroke have crossed my mind.
Well if that happens on the blue side you get Kamala Harris, who hasn't been seen since the times of magic, and the DNC already wondering if they could make Newsom president.
And if it happens on the red side I guess we likely will have the Hamburglar as president. I don't know who else Trump would pick as VP.
It deeply saddens me that a patriot will light themselves on fire for a foreign cause, but no patriot will pull the trigger for a domestic one.
for whom?
also: voting for Biden in the fall

And let’s not forget the right-wing trolls that shill the propaganda that feed the leftists rhetoric.
It is legitimately shocking how hard it is to tell the difference between leftist trolls and right wing trolls these days.
Say what you will about the tenets of enlightenment liberalism. At least it's an ethos.
Right-wingers will just call you a slur, leftists will call you a liberal and usually write several paragraphs, because (if nothing else) they believe strongly in their positions. The disillusionment simultaneously gives them infinite energy in posting online, but saps it away when voting comes around.
I'd respect the ethos of liberalism more if the average modern liberal could still describe it.
The enlightened liberals supporting genocide. What an ethos.
Let's vote against someone meh for not being left enough, there will surely be no negative consequences to voting against someone for not being left enough
"Being meh" is my new favorite definition of "enabling genocide"
Milosovich was meh.
Adolf Hitler was pretty meh
"But voting doesnt matter! Billions of dollars are spent and countless bills are passed to disenfranchise voters, but my opinion is def not bought and paid for by the very same to help enact their bullshit!"
Genocide is not meh. If we don't turn around on this then we aren't the US anymore. I'm not going to play shades of moral blackness. I was willing to play with grey shades because there was a possibility of moving this back to actually helping people instead of exploiting them. But now we're exploiting the lives of poor starving people for donor money.
refusing to vote is not giving trump anything. y'all keep misrepresenting the sentiment. the vote does not matter. when you vocalize that you intend to not vote for anyone in the ruling class, whether they are blue or red that really gets everyone talking and saying that you are handing the presidency to the opponent. as if the electoral college didn't do that when trump lost the popular vote to hillary. yes please tell me how i, one person on federated decentralized platform with no corporate sponsorship, am undermining democracy when we don't really have one that gives us real opportunity to control the government.
You're undermining democracy by NOT VOTING LMAO
It's literally that simple. The electoral college isn't a conspiracy theory, it just weights votes slightly unequally. Your vote is still counted and if more than like 55% of the country votes for someone they're getting in. I don't get what's so hard to understand about this. We're not North Korea, use your damn votes people!
It’s crazy how you can comment something this logical and well thought out, and the next comment will be; “but if you don’t vote for Biden, Trump will be worse.”
Hey, I think this is the first time a meme of mine has been reposted! Look at me, mom, I made it!
No, I made this. [insert meme]
FUCK YOU I WON'T DO WHAT YOU TELL ME!
It checks the box that says “Biden”, or else it get the Trump again.
If you deny people their right to expect their politicians to deliver what they want, then you will lose them. Yes Trump is a serious risk, but Biden could easily listen to the people, and deliver what they want. There are so many things he could do. There are things he is doing, but people are allowed to expect more.
Politicians need to meet the needs of the people. Why is it always expected that people meet the needs of the politicians in order to prevent catastrophe, without getting what they need.
Thank you. We need to pressure Biden so he starts changing his policy instead of trying to get people to compromise with it.
"Will you vote for Biden in the 2024 election?"
Yes
I look at these people and can't quite believe that they exist. Are they professional actors? I wonder. Or are they simply laymen who want a lot of attention? To put them in perspective, I think of being on an airplane. The flight attendant comes down the aisle with her food cart and, eventually, parks it beside my seat. "Can I interest you in the chicken?" she asks. "Or would you prefer the platter of shit with bits of broken glass in it? To be undecided in this election is to pause for a moment and then ask how the chicken is cooked.
David Sedaris
Bad metaphor, Biden is responsible for genocide.
I would argue that Trump used his position for personal gain and that is the least horrible thing I can say about him. https://www.businessinsider.com/trump-biggest-accomplishments-and-failures-heading-into-2020-2019-12?op=1#accomplishment-defeating-isiss-caliphate-and-killing-abu-bakr-al-baghdadi-5

https://www.foxnews.com/us/new-presidential-rankings-place-obama-top-10-reagan-trump-below-biden
There isn't anything going on with Israel and Hamas that isn't horrible, but the subject isn't about this conflict, it's about voting for Biden or Trump. The metaphor is apt and your argument is invalid.
President Biden is responsible for the actions of another country?
Y
Biden is doing a fine job. The world is on fire, we need a steady hand right now.
You may think he's doing a fine job but polling says most do not. https://news.gallup.com/poll/547763/biden-ends-2023-job-approval.aspx
So the deluge of Biden admins who have resigned because of the genocide in Palestine: are they all Trump supporters now since they are withholding their support for Biden?
Good lord, it is horrifying to think about what kind of horrific monstrosities the dems will support in coming decades in the name of "harm reduction" instead of asking hard questions about the viability of their political system, which is bought and paid for by special interests. I give it 5 more presidential cycles before the democratic tagline evolves into "vote for our candidate who only wants to do 5 genocides as opposed to the one who wants to do 6 genocides!". Y'all have been anchor biased hard as fuck. Liberals will continue to prop up genocide such that they don't have to question capitalism, or contemplating what kind of steps would need to be taken to dismantle it.
The history is there folks, read it before you start taking shots to the left as you flail - trying and failing to understand how your country is backsliding into genocidal fascism.
We can point out Trump is worse than Biden, while still pushing for a better candidate on 2028, that won't support genocide.
Nobody is saying it's impossible.
History. History says it’s impossible.
Unironically yes, it's the wrong move to leave a system that you can change and allow it to become worse. That doesn't make them Trump supporters though, that's decided in the general.
They don’t know, what they don’t know.
Absolutely. There's no other reasonable option. There are other options. None of them are reasonable.
This thread is about the general election.
I live in a blue state, so unless the poles are even slightly worrying I might vote 3rd party. But regardless I'll probably vote Biden.
Instead of making these two idiots our only options, why don't we vote for other people instead?
Because that's not how it works. First past the post means there's only ever 2 parties.
You want to change that, cool, but you have to change it first before you can realistically vote 3rd party in a presidential election.
And since presidential elections are determined state by state, you have to change the first past the post system state by state. Maine and Nebraska (iirc) have proportional representatives, so that's 2 down, 48 to go.
Since the state will never change that alone, people should organize to vote for third party themselves. If the poll says that most people will vote for a specific third party if they come up as a majority, then there is no risk in throwing your vote away.
My point is, I guess, organize elections without support from the state. The elections where you show who you would really vote for or the law or the system you would really vote for, without any obligations. Then when peoples choice is clearly seen, you can have courage to actually vote for what the most people believe in.
I vote for Pedro
No, I'm English. We've got our own horrible cunts to vote out.
Wow, so much for the special relationship, won't even come over to vote in our elections 😒
Neolibs after voting for 5 steps towards fascism instead of 10:
"We did it Patrick! We saved democracy!"
Y
However if the next election ends up being something similar to the current one where it becomes another a vote not for X means a vote for Y, I'm going to vote Z regardless of the potential outcome it's the only way to actually make change in our system it just requires people actually going through with the threat of not voting X or Y
Can't be in danger if it is gone!
People when Palestinians are not eradicated or displaced in November:
Optimal left wing meme, well done. Need more left wing thog edits, I think they would work well.
I will likely vote for Biden because I don't consume MSM junk news or Putin's psyops propaganda that permeates social media. Few people understand the Israel/Palestine situation
This election is easy. Vote blue because the only other viable party is straight up fascist and don't even want another election (because they'd keep losing). So I'll vote for a blue rock if it's a vote against the people saying they wanna take us back to the stone ages with a touch of Nazi Germany with a sprinkle of Italian fascism on top, and don't forget the good old American fascism. Comes in 5 great new flavors!
Vote blue if Biden stops the Genocide and fixes the issue. Else vote third party.
Fuck that, I dont vote for genociders. If trump was actually more fascist than Biden is, why didnt he do it the first time?
It is on Biden to course correct and be serious about trying to win here. It seems that is not in the plans. The message of fear is not going to be enough when Trump was already President before.
Y
For all that Biden has done and is doing wrong, he has still done more good for people here at home. People here choosing not to vote for Biden simply because of his support for Israel would damn this entire country, their country, to help people who don't even know them terrify me.
People caring for other people, other then themselves, terrifies you?
No, what terrifies me is that people would deliver this country, the only home I have ever known, into the hands of an incompetent kleptocratic fascist, who will inevitably give us up to theocratic ideologues, for the sake of the Palestinians. Don't get me wrong, I abhor Israel and the Israeli government for its genocide, and all who collaborate with them should be cast into the fires of Hell with them. But what is stopping that genocide worth to you? What price are you willing to pay? Is there no price too high, no expense too great? An entire nation, for a free Palestine? Why stop at just one nation? How about two? 20? 50? 100? The entire world? A small sacrifice, if it means a free Palestine, right?
It honestly depends how it goes
If the democratic party keeps going against everything that would create a better world, and constantly just runs as the "less worse" party, then no. I'm not willing to vote for him again. Sometimes you need to lose freedom to see how much it really matters
Trump is a fucking awful choice. And choosing him will cause the downfall of America.
But it's been a very long time since America was the beacon of progress and freedom and progress. Im more worried about how we take care of the planet and deal with the impending climate crisis. This shouldn't be a country thing, it should be a human thing.
Sometimes you need to lose freedom to see how much it really matters
This is absurd. The result of the Germans failing to stop Hitler was a war that lead to about 70 million casualties, a genocide, years of oppression of the German people. Oh, but its worth it because it taught the German people that freedom needs to be defended. News flash, a pretty decent portion of population already knew that, and currently, people are forgetting the lesson again.
Oh this is a hot take. I don't typically hear about "the Germans failing to stop Hitler". Failing implies there is a successful path. Can we institute, in American, what you perceive as the correct course of action the Germans should've taken? (one which still follows democracy without violence I'm hoping)
Also the person above never said it was "worth it", it's a sad truth that you sometimes don't know how much something matters till you lose it? It's literally your last couple of words you've parroted "people are forgetting the lesson again". The lesson...... of how much it matters and you don't want to lose it...
I just got a message from Putin saying: he really agrees with your view!
Trump is a fucking awful choice. And choosing him will cause the downfall of America.
don't threaten me with a good time, Americas downfall would be a mercy to the rest of the world
People who refuse to vote for Biden because he's a criminal are not going to vote for another criminal either. Propaganda makes you believe you must pick a side between red and blue, you can vote for a third party or don't give your support to the government at all
If you don't vote you're assenting to whatever the majority decides.
If you say lava is going to hit a town or a rain storm is going to hit the town, and you vote for another option that has no chance of happening. You are directly responsible for the lava or the rain storm hitting.
So reach your endgame. Either support one or the either. The time has passed for acting like there are other options.
The time has passed for acting like there are other options.
Indeed, americans are now faced between voting for a corrupted murderer or another. There are not good options anymore it's time to move forward and do everything it takes to strip red and blue from power.
If you say lava is going to hit a town or a rain storm is going to hit the town
You are not forced to vote for these two party or to vote at all and there are a thousand possible ways to change and improve the system so stop making stupid comparison
Most politicians are, doesn't matter which party they are from and the lies they tell the public to get voted. The current ceo of usa is supporting a genocide
No.
You cannot hold us hostage and blame us if Trump wins. Biden can stop supporting a genocide. The DNC could drop him as a candidate.
This is a choice the Democratic elite are making. And if there are no consequences here then there's no hope to get off this pro corporate train into fascism either. They'll just keep following the GOP to the right until in 2028 it's, "we have to support Harris Youth because DeSantis would dissolve Congress."
I've watched the Democrats dive to the right every single election in my life, except one. And I've held my nose every single time they did it.
There are so many people on Lemmy who don't get this. I don't know why.
It feels like they think the only choice is Fascism or Fascism-Lite. The other option is to put your foot down and let the world know you want better, not slightly less bad.
If all these people who'll be brigading these comments with "Not voting Biden is a vote for Trump" would email their representatives instead to say no to all this bullshit, we'd be fine.
But no, it's me that's wrong. I have to vote for the octagenarian war criminal to avoid WW3. It can't be the DNC that fucked up by not fielding a better candidate. I already did this in 2016. I'm not keen to do this again.
Biden is a terrible candidate, yes.
But it really is a choice between an old man I think is a bad candidate or a literal treasonous fascist. And no amount of bellyaching will change that.
So I'm gonna hold my nose, vote Biden, and encourage more people to be active in the primary elections to prevent this bullshit.
The democracy, The average voter has no real policy influence over? Bragging about upholding the status quo with no results is crazy. You can't even this old man to stop enabling genocide. Dems continue to do whatever the GOP asks for with little resistance. All you can do is scream at people to vote harder.
I'm just gonna abstain to vote for president but vote down the ballot blue everywhere else.
Because I have been told time and time again that Biden doesn't need to court Progressives because the important thing is courting the centrists who will get him elected. So if I won't make an impact then, why does it matter if I don't vote for him?
It can't be both that my vote is the most important and not necessary. And I get the argument of, "well he needs to court the centrists who are morons and you just need to vote because you know better." but I know better and I won't just be a reliable vote just because they expect it they are owed it for not being worse.
I want a government that takes it's job seriously. Not expects to keep it because what other choice do I have. And my only power is voice and vote which is practically worthless as working class.
So either Biden will win because everyone is right. No left party in the US and they don't need us or they are gonna change tactics. But I'm tired.
Biden needs every vote he can to beat Trump. The only way we will ever get a true left party in this country is through Democrats. Beating Trump is literally a life or death matter for some people. Hell, more than some.
Yup. And if Biden is so sure that he will win then he will earn the votes won't he? Why is it that sycophants that shout that everyone needs to hold their nose and do what they tell them is the voting strategy instead of doing anything personally to inspire voters.
If Biden wants the votes he needs to ask for them and earn them. You telling me to do anything won't work. You don't have the sway and I say that as any generic person you argue against.
Also, everything is life or death because that is the nature of the world. And the institutional Democrats are never gonna be the party that lets a true left party take over. They will separate before the centrists ever agree to vote on progressive policy because it might change how the game is played.
biden doesn't speak for me
Then Trump, as your President, will.
Y
Joe Biden is complicit in genocide and we should be honest about that.
He's also likely a rapist.
i can't get past those and put him in office.
I'm all for not voting for Biden, but how about people at least wait until the alternative isn't Trump?
edit: So curious about all the amount of downvotes, I can't imagine they are coming from Trump fans. Is that a testament to the amount of people that would still vote Biden even if there were actually decent competition? Or maybe it's a testament to the US love for a one party state or your vote goes to the devil sort of party politics it has devolved to..
If it's not trump then it'll be another republican who will be just as bad. Trump is following republican policy as usual, it doesn't end. Just look at nikki haley. "If we could just beat this bad guy of the week this one time" is an excuse by democrats to never actually pursue progressive policies.
If it was just Republican policy as usual, Mitt Romney would not have been given the cold shoulder he was. I think the most you can claim is that it was the natural progression of where the party was heading to, which I don't disagree with. I'll just mark it as the latter, then, since outcries for ranked voting and more pluralistic forms of European parliamentary representation are even rarer than Bernie supporters.
I'm pretty sure most people are on board with this logic. All of the noise in comments about Genocide Joe or voting 3rd party are 100% right wing agitators and/or bots.
I hope that you are correct.
But I feel a lot of people want to be the smuggest guy in the gas-chamber.
"Will you vote for Biden in the 2024 election?"
Primary: No General: No. Voting third party.
I'm in California.
This system is completely broken and no longer democracy.
Luckily, enough of your fellow Californians are sane that your idiocy won't matter.
some truth right here. Fuck Biden, fuck the DNC, solidarity with Palestine
Something something expecting people to only vote out of fear of what they will get, instead of what you will give them is bad.
Bigger problem is sort of generally just that people have like, no agency to exercise any political will really outside of basically fundamentally rigged and undemocratic system that only comes around every 4 years. Also partially talking about local and state elections too, there. If you're lucky enough to be part of a union, the union is probably also shit because this is america.
On the other hand, I find it really epic and cool that people are now having political discussions through prearranged talking points via spongebob memes. That's really epic, and very cool, and we all love that. If we've kinda reached the point where we're able to just simulate entire discussions through spongebob image macros, you think we would've arrived at a kind of ultimate truth, here, at some point. Even just for a given goal, or set of constraints, or given set of information.
I will also say, most of these spongebob memes are just meant for the in-group. None of these are convincing anyone to change their mind, they're written exclusively from the perspective of someone who's just reaffirming their worldview. The OP's one literally just like, mocks the opposition, there. I don't think you're gonna convince anyone with that, but I've also never seen a convincing one just generally. You'd be better off just formatting a well-sourced writeup, and then copy-pasting that in many places, so people can actually interact with the different links, instead of just looking at the macro and being convinced solely on the basis of rhetoric therein. I've seen better image macros propagated on 4chan for blatantly conspiratorial garbage, because those at least had the pretense of being well-sourced, even if they were just blatantly bullshit if you pushed back and looked up the sources even a little. The misinformation, basically, was trying much harder than this.
Will you vote for Biden in the 2024 election? N.
First thing is I am going to vote against Biden in the primary. Second thing I am going to do is vote 3rd party for president and blue down the rest of the ballot.
I live in a state that the president election is decided (Delaware). I will vote blue since there is issues in Delaware like absentee and early voting that is on the docket. I live in the south of Delaware. Fun fact democrats don't even run someone for state senate in my district. In ice cream millionaires son wins my district
