Niger’s mutinous soldiers say they will prosecute deposed President Mohamed Bazoum for “high treason” and undermining state security, hours after they said they were open to dialogue with West African nations to resolve the mounting regional crisis.
I hope they do. This would set a very good precedent of neo-colonial comprador puppets being tried as traitors to their country, which they objectively are. Only hope that other countries that liberate themselves follow suit, ideally catching them before they manage to escape and steal a bunch of the country's wealth like that rat Afghan puppet president in 2021.
Ground news is such a weird website, USA today and Washington Post listed as "lean left." At least they're very useful for compiling sources, even if they're all lib sources.
But on the story, this is kind of a catch 22. If they execute him, then the barbarous franks can use that as an excuse to invade, but if they keep him locked up there's always the chance that he either escapes a la Guaidó and encourages invasion abroad, or becomes an internal rallying cause for a counter-coup.
If they're damned if they do, and damned if they don't, then that really only highlights the need for Bazoum's disposal. Beats letting him run around and foment more terror via a Guaidó-esque escape.
Yeah, in these circumstances inaction usually is the worst action. I just hope they manage to navigate this well because it's a very dicey and complex situation to be in. For example, if going forward with the trial and execution, it'd be cool if they made significant portions of the proceedings public (and maybe even with official translations) to counter how they're going to be automatically discredited by the fr*nch and their norman allies. That way they'd at least be able to count on more neutral third parties, like other unrelated third world countries, to stave off intervention.
