What sort of crapware? I often hear a lot of lies out of Linux users these days... For a few months last year the rumors of start menu ads were relentless.
I'm quite certain windows has a huge list of problems, but it is quite functional. I build my PC's, though. I've always suspected third party installations are what turn most people off. Like, any HP computer pretty much is going to be trash due to their extra crap.
An entire suite of apps that come pre installed that you, until recently, couldn't remove. Candy Crush, Facebook app, Netflix etc all being installed without permission. Co-pilot AI being mixed into your OS for no reason. Nevermind the phone home nature of Windows as a whole. Hell, you can't even easily make a local account.
For me, it’s always been the auto installed programs for hardware. Realtek trying to be fancy and installing a program that just makes dealing with audio more annoying, killer network cards and their awful program as well. There’s also stuff motherboards auto install like Asus Armorycrate or whatever it is, which Linux gives a middle finger to. Depends heavily on the hardware you’ve got, but particularly in laptops it got extremely frustrating. Same deal with Windows auto installing drivers when I already had a newer version installed, but of course it positively insisted that it knew better no matter what.
Of course, at no point was I asked if I wanted any of that, it just goes ahead and does it regardless
