To tackle poverty, more states will offer bigger child tax credits in 2024

Who knew that giving parents money helped keep poor children from starving to death for yet another year?
- You know what else would help families not starve is forgiving their parents student loans. That would put a lot of food on the table.
  
  The top 1% have so much money that if we just straight up took even a fraction of it, we could buy food for literally everyone.
  
  That really doesn't help everyone.
And some states, ahem…Nebraska…don’t believe in the welfare of their residents, so they rejected millions of federal dollars that would have gone to feeding hungry children.

Insert tired quote about the absurd hypocrisy of right wingers only loving children when they’re fetuses. And even then….
- I wonder how much of their state economy is driven by government welfare paid to farmers?
What about those of us who realized we couldn't afford to have kids and are in poverty as well?
- It's a big gap, and you're in it!
- Adults without children are expendable.
We (well, the legislature/governor, I guess) just expanded the child tax-credit in Michigan, from 6% to 30%, retroactively to 2022. People should start getting checks in February.
