This shit is relentless with every new multiplayer game release. Westerners always want specifically the Chinese to be region locked, nobody else, just them.
They see a name with Chinese characters and start frothing at the mouth about it
Bro the US has terrible internet infrastructure! It's actually criminal, and you're complaining about China?? I'd regularly be completely unable to play online games because of a baseline 300ms delay, thanks to the (only available) ISP throttling speeds like an absolute MF. But its the damn CCP who use their...delay due to geographic distance to...cheat and steal...?
I played a lot of that game in the betas, and did not once come across a single one of these Chinese hackers with bad ping. These people are getting extremely mad at losing and blaming the first thing they see.
Yes it's specifically a reaction to seeing Chinese names. It happens in Naraka Bladepoint too where you come across Chinese names a lot. There's an extreme negative reaction to them. You get this differently with Japanese names where instead the mantra is that Japanese names are all absurdly hyper-skilled. If they're Chinese they're all cheaters though.
I honestly think it would do some good if gamers from China started making friends outside China through games they meet in, they might have a positive influence on attitudes to China.
i tried to make friends with some dudes from china i met on league one time. unfortunately the 2nd game I ever queued with them i fed my ass off and they kicked me and unfriended me as soon as the game ended
I could make the lag argument, there’s a lot of evidence that the combination of distance and all kinds of packet inspecting network hardware would make Chinese players harder to deal with…
was basically going to post the same thing. makes sense to want to play people that are in the same region as you for competitive games. doesn't make sense to get racist AF
Full of racism, not just against Chinese but also Russians.
Although the devs appear to be banning people from the discord for raising this:
And I like this comment:
This is absolutely one of the major methods of promoting hate that is used and figuring out how to get this to stop would be quite useful, it happens every single major multiplayer release.
