When a map is determined to be gerrymandered in court, it seems like that's the immediate point where it should be redrawn by the special master.
Sending it back to the people who gerrymandered it in the first place, and asking them to fix it is a stupid idea.
Which is by design.
Gerrymandering is legal, as is mentioned in the article. What's not legal is racial gerrymandering. If all a court does is find a map to be gerrymandered, it won't send it to anyone to be redrawn.
Courts don't just release random findings. To get a finding, somebody with standing has to bring a legally valid case before the court. If they find a map to be gerrymandered, then it is related to some court case about gerrymandering.
