I figured out MoCA well enough to put in place a backhaul in my home for my home Wifi setup. Diagram of my setup is attached. So far I've got:
- 3 Google Wifi (original WiFi 5) pucks, set up and wired to MoCA
- 3 Motorola MM1025 MoCA 2.5 adapters
- A Fios router (with MoCA 2.5 support that I'm not using)
I'm getting so-so speeds. With MoCA alone and a wired connection I was able to get 850 Mbps or so point-to-point. Over Wifi I get about 500 Mbps down/125 up.
What could I do to improve my WiFi speeds? I'd like to do something relatively simple that would deliver a significant improvement. I don't mind spending money, but I want to avoid wiring lots of stuff into walls or ceilings. Some possibilities are:
- Replace Google WiFi with some wireless access points
- Replace Google WiFi with a newer mesh system
- Replacing the router, adding switches, or getting rid of some bottlenecks elsewhere.
