Update below.
I was on vacation this past week and when I got home yesterday and updated my laptop there were a couple of hundred packages.
No problem. I was expecting that.
The surprise came later when I rebooted and it was blazing fast, more like Systemd than Grub.
I looked around for news of some major change, but I can't find any. Any one have a clue?
---------- Update ---------------------------------
I took some measurements. I have three Linux distros installed on bare metal. I was always impressed with how fast Cosmic booted. I believe it uses some Systemd mechanism that I do not know all the details of. Now, Fedora 42 boots slightly faster than Cosmic, even going through Grub.
Fedora 42 - 12 seconds
Cosmic 7 - 14 seconds
Rawhide - 27 seconds
