Are there any TV series you gave up on, or just forgot about due to insane gaps between seasons?

The next season of Sherlock on Masterpiece Mystery will be coming any day year decade now
I couldn't finish house MD. I say this as someone who prides themselves on watching the longest series all the way through. That final season became too much, they ran out of ideas and were pulling at grass.
watching it with my partner currently due to memes of 'medicine drug'. at season 3 and holy shit its already crashing out pretty hard.
I quite liked season 3 and 4 actually, it was a strong choice to do the whole cast replacement, but they make it work alright for the most part.
IASIP, after 10-12, the show went on for too long, and the actors clearly are getting too old and tired, but they are addicted to the money, and hollywood lifestyle. SPN, after season 8, most fans are wtf is even going after that, eventhough 11 had a good run because it something different. every season after 8 was fanfiction/slashfiction. eventhough they dint go on hiatuses, the show went on for too long for its own good, just because the fans would have a parsocial panic attack if they ended it early on.
and allegedly the actors in isaip did 2 year per season stints, and it worked for a while, but since its such a long length of time between seasons, they aged so much after reaching into thier 40s, they had to use botox and plastic surgery to catch up with appearances, it was so cringey. and rob was famous for going on PEDs to get jacked(which he tried to downplay)
I have it all here but still never finished Breaking Bad. I even liked it, I just never continued it, no idea why.
its good, even as an excuse to watch Saul
I almost never watch the second season of any shows, the gap just kills my interest. When I do, it usually are finished shows.
especially if its only 8 episodes, which is very short, and not very entertaining even if the series is good.
Lost and Game of Thrones.
Who in their right mind can watch every episode for almost a decade to keep up?
The context here is time between seasons. I don't think Lost and GOT had big gaps between seasons.
Okay, so all of them, I guess. 3 months every season over 8 years is still two years of break that kills the series.
I feel like Stranger Things is headed for this (for me at least). It's been so long since S4 and the hype around it, it feels increasingly difficult to get that excited about S5. The longer it takes, the more I forget about ST.
Nearly every show cause I have ADHD.
This is why I have a meticulously curated list of shows I’ve watched and the episode I am currently at in Obsidian with dataviews and all 😀
Damn near everything since streaming exploded over traditional television. Used to only have to wait through summer before a show's next season. Now it can be several years between seasons. Walking Dead was one of the first ones that did this to me... I watched to season 4 or 5 and totally thought that was it; fucker only ended in 2022 and had 11 total seasons.
Pretty much all modern TV series nowadays. You can't make a proper TV series when your actors/actresses and the rest of the crew have such long breaks. At a certain point, you just end up losing critical actors or writers or other members of staff.
The Expanse just kept going until the end, and SyFylis cancelled then, and then when Amazon cancelled them for good. Five and a half seasons in seven years, and that's even with the cancellations and COVID.
expanse had some problems, i think one of the actors was ejected due to being a creep of woman. and then the books take place in the future, so it dint make sense to make a series so soon in post season 6, i heard.
i cringe at the 8episode per season arcs, its the studios execs trying to save money because they spent too much on a-listers, theres no harm in using other actors that arnt super famous, rare exception is STD the (nobody actors were just not that good for the show)
Setting up https://wiki.servarr.com/ helps with the latter since it'll just turn up in Jellyfin one day when a new season miraculously appears, huzzah! 🎉 Also is great when you suddenyy get movies you have no idea what they are about years after adding them 😸
Dark and possibly Black Mirror
The Walking Dead. I started because it was popular when it came out, plus Frank Darabont directing. Season 1 was good, then AMC fired him. Seasons 2 and 3 dragged so I stopped after 3. Fast forward to the end of the series and my fiance wanted to watch the episodes as they came out. My first reaction was "why the fuck are there Stormtroopers in this zombie show?"
i heard it was only good in season 1.
Yeah it pretty much is, they fired Frank right before shooting season 2, they demanded 13 episodes a season up from 6, as well as budget cuts out the ass. YMS has a short series about the differences between 1 and 2 if you're interested.
Caprica, the 1-season Battlestar Galactica prequel. I liked it more than most people, but even I dropped off when they had a 6 month gap in the middle of the season.
Stranger Things. Season 4 took almost 3 years, during which time I had finally cancelled Netflix. I'm vaguely interested in watching the rest of the show, but not until it's done.
Westworld. Never quite finished season 3, and having yet another 2 year wait (after similar gaps between earlier seasons) meant I stopped caring.
they couldve done caprica better, or did a different series, like the cylon war era series instead, before reimagined BSG, and including all the tech that was suppose to be in the series, because the showrunner hated lasers, and energy weapons in the recent series.
Westworld lost its appeal after season 1 anyway
I forgot how bad the Stranger Things scheduling was. I guess it's supposed to finally finish this year?
Yes. But I've forgotten them.
Are you sure?
Not entirely.
Attack on Titan, my god. Not even between seasons, literally in the middle of a season and they're just like ok we're gonna take a 2 year break now!
At least One Punch Man has the courtesy to put their breaks in between seasons properly.
oh yea that was insane, like 4 seasons over almost 10 years. i compare it to INvincible which also had a huge gap in between seasons. why the fuck is it 4 months between half of season 2, everyone forgot about that. then the animation started to get worst and worst. at this rate invincible might take as long AOT to finish the series(estimated 8-10years). and its only 8 episodes per season, surely they can finish it quickly since its not like its a 20-30 episode arcs. by that time everyone already have read the comics/or watched a live narration of said comics of the invincible series and are probably over it already.
and AOT around the last seasons , the animations were pretty bad too.
If I ever have "Fuck you money" Im going to buy the western distribution rights for a bunch of Animes, hire an editor to go through Animes, and edit out the recap of the previous episode, the title sequence, the annoying mid episode break and the next episode preview then smash the whole season into one long movie.
Yeah that pretty much ruined the hype for me. By the time the actual finale came out, I was basically just watching it to get it over with. No more excitement or anticipation.
Just wait, they're gonna release "The final finale: finality, the fourth final half of the final part of the finale" any day now!
I made it through two and a half seasons of Breaking Bad before the constant anxiety and crushing New Mexiconess of it all became too much to tolerate
Under the Dome, there was quite a lot of hype because of the book of the same name by Stepfen King, but the show was not good. I stopped watching in the middle of the first season.
It's apparently very hard to do a Stephen King adaptation. For every good one there's 5 complete failures plus a movie that only used the name and ignored the plot (looking at you, lawnmower man, dark tower, and running man)
Did you read the book? I vaguely remember both and I feel like when the show veered from the book is when it started to go off the rails.
No, but I heard good things about it. I probably would have if the show was any good.
Urgh, thanks for reminding me I still haven't watched Radiant is the Blood of the Baboon Heart
Oh, you really should! I mean, I know you know, but like, it's really good! Very good send-off to the series, quite funny, good stuff from beginning to end!
Oz. It may have been the original "we'll give you more when we feel like it." Gave up around the time they blew it up.
Also lost Haven at some point soon after they explained the barn, I think
I also stopped there in Haven, and then I finished watching recently... that was a mistake.
I'm kind of there with "From" but it's my fault for discovering it just before the 3rd season aired. Binged seasons 1 and 2, watched 3 aaaaannnd... 4? Helllooooo?
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/From_(TV_series)
Season 3 finale was 11/24/2024.
Plan is to shoot season 4 through 2025 so season 4 in 2026? Maybe?
I got sick of that show. It's worse than Lost with the constant hints that there's some greater mystery but then refusing to give any solid details about it, just more cryptic clues that lead nowhere. At least in Lost they got off the damn beach after the first season.
I love that show
Tried hard to get through the first airing of Heroes. One episode, halfway through, we just looked at each other and turned off the TV. Turned out to be the second-last episode. Still feel good about that decision.
Bailed on Dexter a season or three before the end.
Bailed on Dexter a season or three before the end
heros dropped off after Sylar decided to become good two shoes, and when the father died.
I almost always binge so this can happen with any show. Most notably with Game Of Thrones; I stopped watching after I'd caught up with the last episode that came out in real time, and even lost interest.
Then over a year later I watched the rest and was flabbergasted at myself for losing interest in the first place.
I’ve been waiting for season 2 of Extracurricular for several years now.
