  • I enjoyed it. It has a heavier focus on the war aspect of Gundam - relative to the political aspect - so it is not like your typical Gundam IMO.

I have heard from Gundam fans that the story / protagonist is no good given the context of the Universal Century timeline.

However, I watched it without much knowledge of the bigger universe, so the criticisms mean nothing to me.

P.S. I watched the subbed version

    • I'm not sure what they're on about that the story and protagonist are "no good"?

Like, I'll admit the writing is pretty basic and blunt. Characters are shallow and nobody really has time to develop. But apart from like, one moment, nothing really made me upset? I'd still give it a mid/10.

  • I enjoyed it for what it was. Continues the Igloo trend of using uncanny valley CG (FFS the humans look like they spent 5 minutes in Blender on the animation, mechs and environment are amazing though) to tell OYW stuff from the Zeon side. They did a fantastic job depicting the Gundam as a terrifying menace. Unlike Igloo, there's no way really to make this jibe with existing UC canon, so it sits in with other alt-UC stuff like Thunderbolt and Origin.

If nothing else, it's only 6 episodes. Can't hurt to give it a whirl.

Exactly that is why i wanted to watch it, I know Thunderbolt is a very high standard to measure others shows against. But i will give it a try :)

  • I watched it and tbh I thought it was kinda bad. The ending was kinda dumb. That episode where they said ::: spoiler Requiem for Vengeance "Instead of taking the Zaku apart, what if we put them together?" ::: was also extremely dumb. The writing sometimes had the sort of subtlety that makes you wonder if they're actually aiming this show at small children. I'm impressed by how it didn't look like ass most of the time though; the mechs actually looked pretty good! It's certainly a step up from the animation quality of IGLOO.

There's another huge issue I've realized in retrospect. If none of the characters are named anything like "Full Frontal" or "Bring Stabity" is it really Gundam?

edit: Lemmy desperately needs in-line spoilers.
