Karl Marx, born on this day in 1818, was a foundational political theorist and journalist associated with the philosophy of Marxism.

Among Marx's best-known texts are the "The Communist Manifesto" and the three-volume "Das Kapital", in which he set out to define and explain the behavior of the capitalist mode of production.

Marx's political and philosophical thought have had enormous influence on subsequent intellectual, economic and political history, and his name has been used as an adjective, a noun, and a school of social theory.

Marx's critical theories about society, economics and politics - collectively understood as Marxism - hold that human societies develop through class conflict. In capitalism, this manifests itself in the conflict between the ruling classes (known as the bourgeoisie) that control the means of production, and the working classes (known as the proletariat) that enable these means by selling their labor power in return for wages.

Employing a critical approach known as historical materialism, Marx concluded that, like previous socio-economic systems, capitalism produced internal tensions which would lead to its self-destruction and replacement by a new system known as socialism.

  • God, obviously since the lulzsec bust their hasn't been a 'legit' anonymous anarchist hacking group, and is just used by libs/feds etc for whatever

but seriously an American flag Fawkes mask now?? the anarchist hackers are now patriots for the evil empire πŸ™„ surely even those who still bought into anonymous still being a thing should realise it's co-opted by now

  • I deliver groceries for Walmart Spark, and last night I took one last order because it was going towards my house. I had so many problems with shopping for it, and then I get to my car and load the address and the delivery note says, "Bring inside house".

I've had this note before and it's always some asshole who wants to treat me like their butler because they paid $10 for delivery. It's a huge time waste compared to leaving it on the stoop. "Put the milk in the fridge and put this here, and that there". I'm not even supposed to go inside, but when I tell them that I get, "Everyone else does it" and arguing ends up taking more time than just doing it.

Anyway, I get there and it's the sweetest little old lady named Doris. She was leaning on her walker, waiting at the door for me. She just got back from visiting her kids out of state and didn't have any food in the house. Brought her food in and talked to her for a few minutes.

It kind of made me sad because she shouldn't be living alone. I don't know the situation, though. Maybe her kids have tried to get her to move in with them and she doesn't want to.

  • TV and movie sound departments be like

I will make all of the dialogue too quiet to hear and then when the audience increases the volume I will blow out their ear drums! How delightfully devilish!

  • This season of ANDOR, fans get to witness how Character struggles with the consequences their commitment to the cause has on their personal wants, while on the other side of the galaxy Character has to reconcile their commitment to the cause with their personal wants, all the while Character deals with the tragedy of their commitment to the cause stopping them from achieving their personal wants

  • Lmao my mom is randomly trying to sell me on the health benefits of a carnivore "all meat products" diet. Sent me this video. (CW Meat I guess, I didn't watch it)

I hate how easily duped people are. What a disappointment humanity is.

  • Hexbear.net is like the level 1 boss that we need to defeat to reach the next stage of Lemmy’s growth. They have a bombastic opening attack, but upon closer analysis they also have gaping vulnerabilities.

    This tagline..... Fucking

  • So there's this girl I meet every now and then at parties of our one common friend and she hit on me on like 5 different occasions, up to the point of literally trying to kiss me. And it's not like I'm not interested in her, but because we only meet at parties where there's really loud music, my autism renders me basically non-functional in these environments. I already don't know how to act in this situation, but add loud background noise to the equation and I get overwhelmed and escape.

Well now I'm contemplating texting her so we can maybe meet somewhere where there isn't loud noises blaring the entire time, but for some reason my incredible insecurity when it comes to anything romantic is still telling me she's probably not actually interested in me and there's no point in trying. It's absurd. A girl can literally try to shove her tongue in my mouth and a part of me will still think "she probably didn't mean it".

  • 14 years ago, I rented a 3 bedroom apartment for $700 a month πŸ’€, I rented it just for myself. Didn't even have roommates.

Feels weird as I'm looking for places to rent today.

  • Thesis: Yuri

    Antithesis: Yaoi

Synthesis: impossible. I couldn't even begin to comprehend the synthesis. Take half of a Yaoi couple and half of a Yuri couple and you get... What? A boy and a girl kissing? That makes no sense

  • Every season of Survivor I hope for the contestants to vote off Jeff Probst because his challenges exist only to divide the tribe and create conflict.

  • -Sees nice looking apartment at a reasonably priced rent

    -Scheduling tour is relatively painless

-Get sent the application, which asks for rental offer

This is my first time seeing an application asking what you are offering to pay for rent. Considering the area and the amount of people that seem to be interested I have a feeling I'm going to be priced out of this one

  • All of the funny and mildly dumb Trumpisms make me forget that half the time what he says makes absolutely no sense. It sounds like shit linguists make up to show how pathological a sentence can get.

  • Was at partner's family's house for taco dinner and they were offering crunchy shells... uncooked.

Is this why so many people hate crunchy taco shells? Because they're eating chewy, gummy-ass uncooked shells??

  • The contradictions are sharpening and the Imperial Core ever more fascistic and autocanniballistic. The silver lining is that at least folk punk is making a comeback. πŸͺ•
