Live communication and no face to interpret context. Absolutely the worst.
“hello are you still there?” While my mind is still processing the previous sentence.
There do exist conditions that will cause me to pick up the phone when you call and unless you meet them i wont even tell you what they are, just send an email or text instead.

Calls are like a random interruption of everything I'm doing and therefore catch me by complete surprise, causing stress. Usually it completely clears my working memory, meaning that I have to spend time and energy to get back to what I was doing.
- I'd put audio call over video personally. I hate being on camera. It stresses me out so much worse. Also with audio calls they can't see me multi-tasking.

One of the myriad reasons phone customer service jobs are horrible, but also good at training you for interacting with horrible people if you can manage it.
- when a company puts its reps at a disadvantage by always being grossly understaffed and having hour+ wait times.. who's the 'horrible' people? the company or the caller?
  
  Both can be, I have worked phone customer service with zero wait time and long wait times across multiple sectors and some people are straight abusive over the phone even for problems they caused.
  
  My company has zero wait times and is a non-profit that gives money to children.
  It's the callers. There are a lot of people who are genuinely terrible and seem to feel like it's okay to treat anyone they think is beneath them as terrible, to say nothing of the insane sexism/racism that people like to spew.
  
  Both are. I worked for one of those.
  Had a customer insult a coworker's mother. The coworker was in her early twenties, moved to this job from waiting because she couldn't take dealing with people face to face while she was grieving her mother's death. She was sobbing on the phone, while the customer kept being an antisocial asshole.
  Many people think only students do these jobs (perplexed why they would even think that) and that makes them believe they can mistreat the employees. There was an interaction between a coworker with no kids and one of these assholes. She was fed up with this shit and bit back, telling them she's a single mother of two, and to stop assuming who works these jobs. Funnily, it shut the customer up real fast, and suddenly they were apologetic.
  These are just two from the sea of many that I remember off the top of my head years later.
  It's the same type of people who think fast food workers shouldn't get a living wage because it's a "high schooler's job".

But the last two are a near tie, and way worse than the first two.. Phone calls are the worst.

Chat assumes relatively quick responses. Email or bust.
- I don't know why people think this is true. Just because you message me on slack doesn't mean I'm going to see or respond to it immediately.

I put video call at the bottom. It's the most awkward because voice has less delay. Face to face has none. If you try to Facetime me, I'll block you. It's for talking to my (small children) niece and nephew on their bdays and that's it.

I'm a xennial and I feel the exact opposite. Although I do choose chat over other methods in some situations.
- Same and same. Everything being re readable makes me nervous and awkward. Chat is for ppl I feel comfortable around.

Am I the only one who prefers face-to-face over everything else?
It’s the only form of comms where I have all the information/cues to interpret, and no bullshit lag.
In person - all cues, real time.
Text - verbal comms, gives me a chance to read. No body language or tone to glean from though.
I hate audio calls because I’m hard of hearing, sound quality is shit and I can’t lip read or respond on my own time.
Video is somehow worse since now two sensory inputs are fucked due to awful stream quality/lag and my usual methods of trying to understand what’s said are shot. Worse, people expect it to be “better” because I can see now and it makes me angrier. 🙃
- I fucking hate people in general, and do all I can not to interact with people if I don't have to. But if I have to talk to someone, I'd rather drive 20 minutes and talk face to face than deal with any type of phone or video interaction. That said, I'd much rather just have a quick chat or email to get the same thing done.
- Depends on the context for me. There are definitely times I'd rather be face to face, but there are also times I'd rather text.

It's easy to take a few minutes and think about what to say before responding over chat, but when I do that during a face to face conversation people get annoyed for "ignoring them" and "just standing there silently" smh.

I basically never use video calls, except for work meetings and support calls. They simply aren't something I do in my personal life.

This is actually why I want more politics to happen via webcam conversations. Bots can’t interfere, and it’s harder to express a totalitarian sentiment like “AlL iMUGrEntS dIE BYbY”

face to face > video > chat > call because not being able to see a person's facial expression scares the crap out of me. I need to calm my nerves before important calls by simulating the conversation with AI.

F2F > live recording with no interaction on their part > chat > audio call > video call > text I don't know why it's different than chat > colonoscopy sideshow > zoom breakout meeting
- For me I've got to put live recording away toward the end. If I'm doing a recording, I've got way too much opportunity to second guess myself in editing and zero indications whether I'm going a useful direction in my talk.
