A lot of pitties had their ears clipped and tails dockedbefore their current owners got ahold of them. If you get a dog from the shelter that had its ears clipped are you supposed to just hide them under a sheet every time you go outside? Should shelters just kill these dogs to avoid the shame of showing them? This is an absolutely braindead take.

That is a pit bull.
I've got a different dog now, but I really miss my pittie since he died last year. Such sweet piles of love. It's a shame that some people abuse them, and even more a shame that some people try and paint the entire class of dogs as villains without even trying to cuddle one.

Bully XLs killed loads of folk in the UK, often unprovoked. It got to the point where the breed got banned. While ownership plays a part, they were disproportionately represented in fatal incidents.
The amount of owners who were shock because their dog was a kind spirit that wouldn't hurt a sole, then one day snapped and kid was dead.
