  • I'm gonna be tested somewhat later in May, I'm absolutely (also my partner) sure I have apnea, and I fear I'll have a "good" night the day of testing. But I'll keep a close eye on thread for your experiences !

    • I wouldn't worry about a false negative if you have even the slightest inkling your sleep isn't perfect. apparently if the at home is negative they tend to do a monitored sleep study at a clinic, which I'm grateful I avoided lol. like I need to feel as though someone is getting bored watching me and my weird little boners.

      I did an at home test and did my usual routine, a little sleepy tea. I also remember having to be more deliberate when turning over at night, rather than thrashing like a maniac. so I forced myself to get comfortable & lay still. I woke up thinking I slept better / more restful than normal. the diagnostic results were like "nah, ur shit iz fukt". I think I averaged a panic-induced stir every 2-3 minutes. I had no clue how crazy it was and that's described as "moderate".

      my exes and family said I snored sometimes, but it wasn't bad or scary. some sufferers don't even snore. just silently almost suffocate dozens of times per hour.

      legit this is what like probably all those MFs in their 50s-60s that "died in their sleep" got got by. all those events traumatize your body/brain and they think it takes several months to unravel that.

      my CPAP is like my one possession I would--without hesitation--kill or be killed to stop from being taken away.

    also a chinstrap user because my dumbass mouth won't stay closed, but i'm not shaving a beard off to attempt to make a full face mask work. have just started trying out tape to see the difference in feel/jaw position

    • Ive run the gamut of masks. Started w nasal pillows, then to a hybrid mask, then to a nasal mask, , then to full face mask, them back to the nasal pillows. I laso have a full beard. I shave it once a year for one of my twice yearly skin cancer screenings. Even the slightest bit of stubble makes a full mask fucking unbearable.

      It took some effort to not fish mouth or whatever they call it, but ive mostly got that under control now i think. I use sleephq, just because my o2 ring plays nice w it. I have a couple rpi4s in a drawer so i use one w a ezshare wifi sd card to upload my shit to sleephq because im a stats dork to boot, and im just not paying 280+ for something i already have knocking around in a drawer.

  • Luna G3 with the DreamWear nasal pillows, no chin strap. I guess I'm pretty good at keeping my yap shut when I can breathe easy.

    been on treatment for "moderate" sleep apnea a year and a half? absolutely improved QoL. my life before and lack of good sleep was brutal, though I thought it was normal.

    • Airsense 11, w nasal pillows of some variety. Also use an o2 ring the nights it isnt too much of an annoyance.

      Its made a difference in my sleep quality. I can get less sleep w my cpap and its of better quality than extended sleep time without.

  • I was actually diagnosed with mild sleep apnea recently. My endocrinologist suspected it during an appointment and started asking me what I thought were weird questions for an endo appointment (like "do you remember a lot of your dreams?") and put me forward for the sleep test. However they said it's so mild they aren't going to do anything about it. Tbh I can't see myself using a CPAP machine anyway. I don't know how someone could sleep with that.

    • That's fully your choice, and I'll respect your autonomy but i think it's bad. It is actively taking life from you. Just a little bit, but it is.

      Just curious but what were your events per hour? My sleep doc/ copd doc says anything over 2-3 flagged by machine is enough to get one. Were your events counted by hand or flagged by machine? Machines have guidelines they follow, anything less than a 50% oxygen drop (quite literally 49% or less) wont even get flagged by an airsense 10/11. Its important to get a good polysomnawhateverist to count them. Im getting to where i can count them by hand when using OSCAR, and a lot of them don't get picked up by my cpap machine.

      I'm not trying to talk over you, or discount what you want to do, just bringing some awareness in case you didn't know. I apologize if you already know these things end I'm just mansplaining out whatever.

      • As I said, the hospital themselves said they aren't going to do anything about it as it's mild. It's not actually my choice. I'm just not arguing it with them as I know I wouldn't wear the CPAP anyway,

  • I got diagnosed, used it for a month, and really hated it. I didn't notice a difference in daytime tiredness levels, and my throat was raw all the time, like the CPAP was pulling hydration out.

  • Airsense 10 and it's fine

    My partner has some sort of Resmed as well not sure which one but we both took at as a sign we should be together lol
