Does Canada’s future lie in the European Union?

Canada's future, as is every other country in the world, lies in not accepting and not allowing fascism and control by the wealthy minority to take control of everything.
Democracy is government by the people for the people .... not this stupid monsterous system we've created where a complicated series of controls and manipulations make us all believe we have fair and equitable elections that go on to select pre-approved leaders that are beholden to the most wealthy and powerful minority of people that control our country.
While I welcome a close relationship with Canada as someone in the EU I am not sure extending the EU that far outside its current area would be a good idea. Certainly not something to be rushed.
- Maybe if Canada builds a border wall and makes Trump pay for it.
  
  I am more worried what it might mean for a coordinated defense of the EU to bloat its outer perimeter and inner supply lines that much.
- I mean, the EU already has territory near the North American continent. and in South America.
  
  Yes, Canada can join the EU if there’s enough public support. We do not need to draw these arbitrary lines due to geography. As we align culturally and politically in a lot of ways.
  
  The thing is, those are maybe the size of a medium size city if you add all of them together (read: easy to evacuate if necessary). And unimportant enough that they would likely be relatively safe anyway in case of a war. Neither is true for Canada.
- Technically, as a EU citizen you're entitled to live and work in some islands in the Caribbean because they're part of the EU
  
  Not necessarily. There are a multitude of different regions (like Schengen) for various purposes that overlap with the EU to varying degrees, some include countries not in the EU but omit others that are,... Or in other words, it is complicated.
- Ya as a Canadian I love the EU and support you guys; I hope we build stronger trade and relationships. I know I'm shopping more EU companies, just wish more could figure out how to ship to Canada.
  However, why tf would Canada join the EU... We are not in Europe, its in the title folks 🤷‍♂️
  The push to regain more control of our sovereignty does not sit well with the idea of joining yet another distant organization we will be beholden to.
- Thanks to France there are parts of the EU very definitely not in Europe.
- It doesn’t make sense. Canada can’t really join Schengen and I’m not sure it’s a good idea to further fragment the Euro (Canada’s so different than the existing eurozone countries that it needs its own currency and the Euro already had crises with Greece and all that).
  But an extension of the existing free trade agreement would be excellent.
Its past did too, let us back in!
