The lawmakers can now rest in the peace that they have made it illegal, and kids will be kids, as they have been for ages.

When did this stop being parent's responsibility? Oh wait they don't actually care about the kids, they want to try to force porn websites down by making it too risky or costly to manage checking the age of every visitor and storing that information securely.
It should be solely up to parents to set any parental controls on devices they allow their children to access if they don't want them viewing porn, end of story.

As a parent, thats our job. Restrictions have never been easier. My mom literally would have had to jump through impossible hoops for the average person back in the day aside from just unplugging the PC and taking the chord, and I still had ggw ads at midnight so fuck off. Nowadays I have a GUI that tells me everything and I can choose what they can access.

For the 99% of people just use the built in google or apple stuff. It literally gives you some moderately refined control that is more than enough for smaller children. You just make them child accounts through that. If your child or teen is smart enough to get around it its already time for the talk about the true nature of the web and technology. They're ready and will benefit in the long term from it. You can also use AdGuard to protect them from some stuff on apple, and I hate to say it but Google's Family Link is the right amount of convenience after I've blocked all their tracking in my pihole. Theres other methods of blocking this content, but I'm exhausted and would rather have a dedicated fall guy device for the google services for now.

There is no reasonable way to implement this as a law; is the argument against it.
Either everyone gets tracked by the government openly (which also means your browsing history can be accessed by a foia) or private companies get access to personal information they shouldn't have.
Neither case prevents all access points of porn, but both would require fundamental changes to society itself, as well as internet infrastructure, and would forever isolate any and all states that are stupid enough to implement these requirements.
So yes, kids shouldn't have access to porn. Parents and people in those kids lives are responsible for that, not big daddy government.
If we learn nothing else from the fall of the US we can learn that you do not willingly give the government more power or information.

Nobody has ever been forced to watch porn, it's a choice you make. More to that point, one perk of such legislation will be less children watching porn (good) and more adukts learning about VPNs, torrenting, and/or online privacy (also good). Are you one of those boomers who makes a scene at the package store when the clerk has to scan your ID?

I mean as someone who looked at porn online as teenager, my argument would be I liked titties and I wanted to see more.
