I am surprised Ars didn't mention that Amazon/Kindle recently shut down the ability to download eBooks (and by extension extract them into a format like ePub). This is a critical development when considering an e-ink device from Amazon.
That’s an issue with the Amazon services but the device itself is pretty much as capable as it was before so you can source your books elsewhere, which I think many people do. Now, if they took away their undocumented format converter that works over email, then I’d be angry. My next device won’t be a Kindle for other reasons though.
