Putin Is Winning Russia’s Hybrid War Against America

December 11, 2020

charging an employee of a Russian troll factory known as the “Internet Research Agency” with “criminal conspiracy to defraud the United States” (related to election influence). These cases notwithstanding, Putin is clearly winning Russia’s hybrid war against the U.S. because Americans don’t understand how they are being manipulated.

One of the main difficulties in countering malign Russian influence stems from divergent understandings of hybrid warfare. Russia considers hybrid warfare a form of conflict which includes strategic uses of economic, diplomatic, and influence operations, along with the use of military forces and espionage. By contrast, the U.S thinks of hybrid warfare as actions or tactics used before a conventional war. While the U.S. thinks it is managing pre-conflict aggression, Russia already considers itself in the midst of a strategic battle disguised as competitive aggression.

    US has no "hybrid" options against Russia. Sanctions and confiscating Yachts don't prevent its high production levels. It has high gold production in addition to all other important resources and food. The Russian people know US to be evil aggressors in this war, and have a stronger determination to fight/resist than Canada does in the face of its own US aggression, because Canada has corrupt/bribable political leaders, and easily prone to division and gaslighting from those politicians.

    Russia is accused of amplifying GOP division messages. It's unclear that US sources wouldn't be enough to create hate against immigrants, vaccines, trans/queer/diversity employment mandates, but GOP being thrilled by such hate, means they are by far the main responsible party.

    Factual evil about the US, including admissions from politicians and mainstream media, and its BS propaganda that pretends to be informational warfare against Russia, but really is purely for domestic/western brainwashing, is general informational/factual warfare that democracies are more vulnerable to have truth influence them. US/west has still had remarkable success in maintaining anti-Russia propaganda. Israel and Iraq wars have far more detractors, and in Israel's case, truly extreme fascism is required to punish detractors from ruling class.

      I agree. Russian population does not have the Apple iPhone / Apple iPad / Samsung Android / etc addictions of USA. Russia has much more domestic control of media systems. So it isn't possible to wage exactly same kind of war that the "Internet Research Agency" and Cambridge Analytica worked together on in late 2012 / early 2013.

      Since year 2022 the IRA / CA content has all been fed into large language models as training material off the Internet. So Russia/Kremlin no longer controls this, and beyond the original 5,000 patterns the LLM systems can come up with any number of new variations. The only option is to teach "media ecology" and reason thinking to every person over say age 11 in society, a massive education campaign on how all people can distinguish fiction vs. non-fiction. Along the lines of Carl Sagan's 1995 book.

      People, all the people, have to abandon their addiction to mocking, mockery of out-groups. That is incredibly difficult, I strongly fear the USA will not recover and will continue to fall into more and more anti-human self-destructive anti-science behaviors, as defined by Carl Sagan in 1995 as it has since every year since 2013 when the "Putin Media Invasion" started.

      I don't see that. Joe Rogan said just last month that he would rather go to Russian than Canada. I do not see people responding with discussion about what is bad about Russia, morality of good and bad. I see people just LOL LOL LOL LMFAO "Joe Rogan dumb" LOL, inside the Kremlin 5,000+ simulacra patterns of meme-speak. Calling people dumb and stupid is just a cult of out-group hate, it isn't actually teaching and educating. We need people to truly stop the mockery and focus on reality / truth / science, and morality of good. Not favoring "bad" like they are now.

        98% of Russians have a smartphone. Some social media is blocked, but NYT is not. VPNs available. West blocks Russian media more than other way around. What separates Russia from west is not access to opposing narratives for those that seek it. It is tolerance for divisive misinformation. Democracy has morphed into craving the latter.

        More people would realize that provoking a war on Russia is neither profitable or moral. Belief that CIA is truthful and wants everyone to be happy, and so "values based supremacy" justifies diminishing others with any and all lies necessary to keep you committed to the weapons and oil profits available from perpetual operation.

        That is about divisiveness political issues, immigration, trans, vaccines that he somehow would feel a need to speak against in Canada, and fakes that he would have a harsher reaction than the welcome Tucker Carlson got for speaking BS there to a semi friendly audience. He wouldn't just go to UFC event to enjoy the event, he somehow needs to grandstand in Canada, where he wouldn't need to Grandstand against Russia policies. Political hacks, despite your wish for better critical reasoning skills, will have profit opportunity in disinforming their less acute adherents.

      That's the real true problem of the world. People think bad things are hilarious and funny. Morality issues of being attracted to self-destruction of earth, wrecking good, etc. Elon Musk, Donald Trump, Vlad Putin, terrorists, murder, killings LOL LOL LOL amused all the time on social machines.

      The bad things are people's attraction to hate, dehumanization, morality problem.

      It's only useful to identify that it comes from Russia to understand it. The lack of morality education in domestic Russia is a threat to the world, if they decide to set of nuclear bombs or spread other weapons of mass destruction (diseases being the cheapest and easiest) because they are attracted to LOL LOL amusement and mockery of humanism, it doesn't really matter where and which nation it matters that nobody bothered to help people understand morality of good from bad.

      All human beings can become monsters and choose bad and avoid good. The concern is the entire world. Technology to wreck good keeps advancing, it's what is in people's minds and attraction to bad that's the threat to every person on the planet.
