New research suggests that antidepressants can accelerate cognitive decline in people with dementia. At the same time, some drugs appear to be less harmful than others, which can help doctors make better treatment decisions, according to the study published in BMC Medicine.

It would be more reasonable to say that people with depression, bad enough to need treatment, have worse cognitive decline.
- There has been really suggestive research lately that many mental disorders, including depression, are related to poor metabolism.
  It would make sense that if someone is already exhibiting one brain based metabolic issue they would be more likely to suffer from a second one.
