  • For me, it isn't the taste, that's always personal, so it's a shrug and whatever.

It's how many of them are badly done. Dude makes bank. He can afford good work. My twenty-odd years old generic flash piece looks better than most of those in terms of craftsmanship. And that's with some fading and blurring.

If that's the vibe he's going for, that's fine, I ain't mad at that when it's intentional. But there's some of those I'm actually confident I could have done and done just as well, and I suck. I've had people ask me to do weird shit they were not willing to go to someone that's skilled, and it's their skin, so I did it. But it was all janky as fuck. And there's some of these that are at that level of execution.

  • The best part is when they get into their 60s and 70s and you have to physically stretch out the folds to figure out what the original image looked like

    • If people are cool with that when they get tattoos, that’s fine. I’ve been told by a few that they like the reminder of who they used to be. Personally I would be unhappy with blurry smudges as “reminders”, and I also don’t need physical reminders, so I don’t get tattoos. I can really appreciate a truly original and well done piece of art as a tattoo…but far too much of what I see IMO is just shit with nothing original about it.
