How controversial is Soapbox?

I'm aware that many Soapbox instances are somewhat controversial. Is this to the extent that any Soapbox instance would have the same reputation?

They are proud that gab is using it or truth social, found this in the blog 😅

I would like to have a selfhosted (web)frontend for mastodon like this, but Elk is not pretty imo
- Yeah, that's a problem. It does what I want (especially with Rebased) and many others don't, but it's making a big deal out of being used by arseholes.

If Soapbox sucks, any recommendations between Akkoma and Calckey? Basically want quoting features.
