That time my middle school english tried to make us write a rap song

I'm not complaining in this story, I just think it's funny (looking back).

So basically, we are in 8th grade, and our English teacher (known for being eccentric) always made us do unusual assignments. One time, he decides to split the class into groups of 4 kids and make them write lyrics and compose a beat.

The problem is I got put into a group of 1 (just me). Now picture this, a kid with 0 social skills, music talent, someone who had never even listened to rap before, making a rap song to perform in front of the whole class and their parents (yes, we were going to do a concert).

I remember just not being able to do the assignment and crying (like a stupid removed). I would straight up dodge my teacher for the year outside of class so that he would stop hounding me for a submission.

In retrospect, crying and running away (sometimes literally) from my school assignments was basically my default strategy of dealing with middle school 💀. It's a miracle that this troubled child grew up to be a model student (in primary school I was known for biting the other kids).

If I were directing someone's nightmares, this would be an excellent situation to force them into.
"You're back in school and you have an assignment due immediately. It's to do a rap performance in front of your teacher plus the whole class AND their parents. But you didn't do the assignment even though you're already on stage and everyone's waiting. Also it's being broadcasted, your teeth are falling out, you're naked, covered in bugs, going bald, and no sound comes out when you try to speak." Muahahahaha

To compose a beat? That's a interesting english class. How did the others do that?
- No idea. I think the idea was that the beat didn't have to be complex or novel, so it was fine if you had 1 kid who chose the music elective in your group.

We had to write a rap about ladder safety and perform it in class. I was partnered with a kid who loved metalica and I was not a rap listener. I'd like to thank him for being the one to say that we should just say some stuff instead of rapping.

I had an 8th grade history teacher who called me captain cr*pple the first day of class when I walked in on crutches...
Ironically I actually quite enjoyed his class and still have a deep live for learning history. If I wasn't concerned with financial viability and helping my parents after I finish my studies I'd probably be a history major.
The trajectory of life really is quite a funny thing when you look back on it.

I feel you though cause it reminds me of the time when I was at some little activity thing for kids at my local library at the time and they were having us do a drawing and I couldn't draw for shit and didn't even know where to begin with an idea for what to draw, so from what I remember, I was just kind of stunlocked for most of the time. And then one of the kids, who granted was a fair bit older than me from the look of it, drew some fancy thing I couldn't even imagine doing.

Was it as embarrassing as this?
