What happened to Pez?
What happened to Pez?
It seems like Funko pops shouldn't have stood a chance in a space so thoroughly saturated with collectible plastic characters from any franchise imaginable. And there was candy involved.

looks like shit
I'm still here.
What we need is a rerun of these guys. Had one. Somehow made the candy taste better. Probably because you’d lose them behind the couch before they reached your mouth.
I haven't seen it here in the comments, so I'll be a total curmudgeon and say it: fuck Pez. I hope it dies out. Shitty tasting candy dispensed from a shitty dispenser. Even as a kid I was disappointed. Plus, it's just more needless plastic garbage that ends up in landfills for almost no reason at all
If only the candy wasn't bad
And the dispensers didn't constantly jam
I recently had some pez for the first time in like 20 years. The candy was better when I was a kid. I can still remember the grape and strawberry flavors, and the modern ones are shit.
I just tried some pez the other day that someone gave me for Christmas, the "grape" flavor tastes like sunscreen.
I think the novelty of each piece of candy coming out of a character's neck made it taste better 🤣 the only flavor I actually remember is a cola flavored one. I remember trying the regular ones a while back and hating it
I liked how pez tasted back in the day at least
I was just thinking there should be Pez compatible mints.
I actually don't hate the candy. Technically easier without the dispenser though, lol.
If you've got a knife you can cut Necco wafers down to size to improve the taste.
Pez was historically unwilling to make disoensers featuring real people. I believe the Elvis Pressley dispenser released 10-15 years ago was the first. many others featuring IRL are fakes as you used to be able to find KISS ones on Ebay that Pez never made.
Funko was more willing to recreate people.
They gots them at the bulk barn here. And a tub of the candies.
I bought a fistfull to use as D&D monster tokens last week
Watch this: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Pez_Outlaw I came into it blind and absolutely loved it. It tells a cool story about the origin of pez among else.
I feel like there's some article here I'm not seeing here.
Pez never went anywhere. The thing is though, I just looked at my pez the other week. The ones still on sale (as of a few months ago when I bought these) contain red dye #3.
That shit'll give ya cancer.
So those pez will just never be opened.
Everything gives you cancer
Wait what? Is this only an American thing or do they have that dye in EU too?
Only in America
Pez are only like 20% character. FunkoPops can be more expressive because they don’t need to dispense candy.
FunkoPops have zero practicality outside of collecting dust on your shelf and are just modern day beanie babies. Pez at least provides nutrition and a way to store loose candy in your pocket for today's person on the go.
more expressive
Every Funko Pop ever:
O O _
Every Funko should be a gumball machine, to justify those giant heads.
Can you make your Funko pop look like it's talking?
Check and mate.
Saw them at Christmas in Denmark. I haven't seen them in almost 30 years, so I was tempted to buy them, but I still remember the candy being bad so I passed.
Did they ever improve the spring mechanism on the dispensers? The last time I got one was probably in the 90s, and those things were constantly jamming up. I'm surprised that they didn't go out of business already, honestly.
