Bregman declined Tigers' 6 years/$171.5 million, opting for a shorter contract (and higher AAV) with the Red Sox

Alex Bregman, who turns 31 in late March, hit .260 with 26 home runs, 44 walks and 86 strikeouts across 145 games for the Houston Astros in 2024.

Six-year contract worth $171.5 million (with some deferred money) and an opt-out clause after the 2026 season.

I live around some Astros fans and I wonder how upset they’ll be

The Bosox contract is wild, especially considering he was clamoring for a long term deal. But it's probably a reasonable bet, if his body holds up for the next 3 years, that he'll be able to squeeze an extra $50M out of the following 3. And if his body doesn't stand up, those opt-outs were going to kill him.
