Thanks to all for the words of support yesterday.
Ended up cooking dinner for everyone, bro had a go (so I had a go back naturally), so left mine in the fridge and went to the beach lol.
Highlight was getting dumped by a wave and doing my shoulder hitting the seabed. Nothing like a few endorphins followed by some wine on an empty beach. It was actually very calming heh.
Hottest take from the night was that I need to get vaccinated (whooping etc.) if I / p's want to see his baby due in May. Problem is I'm up to date and he was/is anti-covid / flu vax. Basically threatening the parents that if I'm not vaxxed (not them) they won't be seeing their future grandkid. Fucking wild. Making me out to be a risk to their unborn kiddo is fucked and classic acute NPD manipulation.
Anyway hopefully the cunt leaves soon.

When I was a kid every cat we had would choose to sleep on my bed, never my parents bed, and they'd purr like a cesna. I loved it but I'd also lay awake at night thinking "Jesus Christ can you not?"

I find the purring helps kick my insomnia. Cat doesn't always want to sleep in human bed. So cannot apply as necessary.

In other news it is Elder Minipeelers birthday soon enough to begin discussing cake, and a San Sebastian/Basque cheesecake has been mentioned with hope in their voices. So I guess I'm making a San Sebastian/Basque cheesecake, which I've never done before 😳. It looks reasonably straightforward but one of the local cafes does an utterly superb one that I will of course be comparing mine to. The cost of just going there and buying a whole cheesecake off them will be out of the question given how much they charge for a slice.

Thankyou 🙂 That's the one I decided to do because they made it so many times and it was described in the simplest way lol. There were a few others I looked at and they just didn't hit me as doable like that one did. I've also decided that it will be enjoyable because cheesecake, and we will enjoy it even if it doesn't quite turn out the same (because cheesecake 😆but also because Elder and Miniest both really appreciate effort made for them, I'm lucky in that they see and appreciate the effort I make 🥹).

Adding to motorcycle man in my street is new mustang man. Always seems to have someone to go early on weekend mornings and the car is loud AF. Honestly can’t win with these people.

i don't know about your experience with the OCP but it made me feel like i was constantly in the luteal phase. small doses of an SSRI during the luteal phase seemed to do the trick for me-
Pills was long enough ago I can't totally trust my memory. Shots messed me up in ways I didn't realise properly until a few years off them. Surgical now, and on countdown to it not mattering anyway. But yeah, I can get explosively unreasonable.

The Worst Journey In The World is about a different one - Scott’s doomed polar run - but it’s some of the best adventure writing there is.

I used to collect and read antique and vintage books on Arctic and Antarctic exploration , even wrote a small essay on historic scientific work done by early explorers that was published in the Age. I remember my bosses were really chuffed and a quiet colleague in the same unit but a different wing came to my office to tell me all about his famous explorer uncle who went with Shackleton.
Early British and Australian expeditions were disasters because they were outfitted so poorly and lacked a lot of the traditional knowledge needed for survival. They did not lack for bravery. Amundson showed how to do it.

Applying for a volunteer position and they need two referees that they'll contact and ask them to write a character reference. I'm kind of scared to ask my manager because she's busy and also a colleague because of the off-chance that they'll turn on me. But I should just ask.

I’m considering a compost bin to deal with the endless dropped leaves and invasive grass that come into my yard, being as I don’t want to get a green bin or a gardener. It might help with keeping things tidy.
But that requires me to buy an outdoor bin and a drill.

Den of Thieves: Pantera
The sequel to Den of Thieves and this time, the big score is located in Europe.
The first Den of Thieves is quite entertaining and a great heist movie along the lines of Michael Mann’s “Heat”. I strongly suggest watching this prior to the sequel. I did not do that, and started regretting it during the viewing, as there are some references that eluded my memory.
O’ Shea Jackson and Gerard Butler take the leading roles. O’ Shea is completely forgettable performance while Gerard Butler has a great screen charisma but it’s often let down with terrible dialogue.
The plot is slightly confusing at times, nevertheless it moves along at a fairly good pace.
The truth is I’m not here for Oscar winning performance or cinematography or engaging dialogue, it’s about the score. The action.
The movie opens up with a really smooth jewelry caper with full combat gear, full comms, souped up Audis and surveillance overwatch. The thieves are going loud and it’s an intense thrust right into the action that gets you invested straight away.
The big heist in the third act is equally intense but it’s a quiet job and much more physically demanding. All the tropes were on display here. The cameras, motion detectors, safe cracking, all the gadgetry etc..a very engaging display of skill, discipline and physical prowess. (Kind of unbelievable at times though)
Not the best heist movie around but, definitely entertaining. Has a nice little double twist at the end. Not really rewatch worthy for me.
