Ye Power Trippin' Automod banned me from Lemmy.world

If I broke a rule, I apologize, but I'd like to know what I did. Yesterday, I posted a user-generated map of ICE agent sightings and Lemmy.world's automod immediately deleted the post and banned me from the entire site. I have no idea why that post, above all my other interactions with !resist@fedia.io, warranted a sitewide ban. Is it because I changed the title to blame a vile subreddit when the map went down? I really hope it isn't partisan bias.

  • the domain you posted a link to was in our automod blacklist due to previously being used by spam bots.

upon review it appears that this domain serves user generated content by different users that can be determined in the URL path. in those cases we typically only ban those users rather than the entire site if it's not overly spammy.

we also usually review automod actions quickly, although in this specific case we must have missed this, as we had a lot of other true spam removals in the last days.

you have been unbanned from LW and your post has been restored.

    • I wonder do you have an appeals method? Threativore for example provides a way for people to open an appeal to its autoremovals via a pm.

    • Thank you for your response. It makes sense that Lemmy's mod staff are on the defensive lately, just like we are. I didn't think of Lemmy.world having a support page, and I probably should have appealed there instead.

    • Thank you for jumping in !

  • Automatic ban? PTB unless 1) the ban is because of a domain associated with spam, and 2) there's an appeal procedure for false positives.
