Honestly I feel if the problem was unfairly banned people, they could have just opened the 196 comm on lw and run it in parallel and let people post on both whichever they prefer. It's not like people will crossposts their memes (probably)
That's bc you are kind to think about other people, and anarchist enough to realize that even if you do not, others will still think of themselves in the end.
These mods seem incapable of thinking about the situation from the perspective of what would best serve their users. I don't know if it's ego or what, but something is standing in the way of that.
The old mods seem absolutely determined to sink this ship as best as they possibly can.:-) Now, rather than even so much as "allow" people to post to the newly formed community, they are trying to reassert their dominance over their old stomping grounds that they said they were done with, except now that others have expressed interest in it too, don't seem to be done at all.
Halfway, and yet somehow this meme still seems to remain true regardless:-).
Perhaps instead of relying on the (old, now LW) mods to step aside, Ada will appoint the mods of the new letter community to be the head of the old numeric one instead, on lemmy.blahaj.zone.
People seriously need to relax. Both the mods and the users. Just forget about it and continue shitposting in whatever community, it's not even worth being upset about. Shit happens, nobody is perfect, and it's fucking c/196, everyone should just calm the FUCK down!
I've just realised Americans don't say the "and" in numbers.
So instead of "a hundred and ninety six", they remove the "and", and they've just been walking around saying things like "a hundred ninety six" for years.
I mean, it's pretty commonly said, especially in a colloquial setting. More people than not probably use it.
But there is a convention that the "and" should be adhered to when a decimal is present; that said, – like many grammar rules – this isn't far from universally followed.
That pretty much makes sense - and the American manner makes sense, it's just so similar to what I'm familiar with, but slightly different, so looks really wrong to my brain.
