I'm in two minds about whether I should get a new phone. The one I have right now (from the Samsung A range) has been randomly restarting, and my sister who has the same phone, has had that happen to her. I don't want to get rid of the phone until it's on its last leg, but maybe it's time for a factory reset.

It's only done it a few times though. Around three times this month
And if it happens during a critical call or time when your waiting on a message?
True. I found a setting in my phone turned on that allowed the phone to auto-restart when performance isn't optimal, but it was only supposed to restart when the phone wasn't being used. Maybe it's time to replace this one.
Backup using samsung smart switch, factory reset, then restore the backup.
