When I was still going to an indie MC pharmacy (they markup by 40% so I go to amcal instead now lol) there was a woman in there losing her fucking miiiiiiind about the availability of her particular flower script. Like, the po-po were called because she was making suuuuch a bloody ruckus. And of course, her car starts to get towed because it's 4pm on Sydney Road on a weekday, and the tow trucks wait in the side streets for the hour to tick over and nab up everyone who doesn't know 😂 so she's losing her fucking mind, the po-po are on the way, and I had to tap her on the shoulder and go "um I think your car's being towed". She put Usain Bolt to shame with how fast she got outside and into the face of the tow truck driver.
  But it got her out of the shop, so the five other customers and myself could be served finally 😂

  One of the worst is when you're behind them when doing grocery shopping.
  I got stuck at Aldi behind someone and by the time they had paid and sorted their stuff out, aisle next to me had been through an entire rotation or 2 of people at the cashier while were stuck with one elderly person.

Miniest has decided to go to her class party tomorrow after previously telling me she wasn't interested in going. That's fine, except she has to bring a plate and I haven't got anything. Rather than do a shop dash in the morning and spend a fortune on cakes or donuts or some crap, I've decided that seeing as how I've got the stuff to make choc chip cookies then I'll do that. Yes, I am about to make choc chip cookies right now. Pray for mojo!

We are in beautiful Timaru. Currently 10°c and raining.
It's all good though. We have a beach front room with a spa. We have food and beer. No need to go out again. PS. We also have the Aussie cricket. Living the life.

I've decided im going to write 5 new songs in my 2 week break.
The rules are:
Must be able to be performed by myself
Must use existing lyrics
At the end of each day, what's completed is the final song
Must be ready to be performed by the 2nd week of Jan.
May as well use the break to do something artistic.

Some days I feel so unappreciated at work, especially when I do things and put things in place to try and be more efficient at work and planning ahead to avoid disasters and more work.
I should just shut up, work my hours and get out of here instead of constantly trying to improve things.
- Aye I have a friend like you. She cares about the quality but she is the only who one does. I keep telling her that’s not her job and not her pay grade, especially not when her supervisor doesn’t care. She is much happier now that she has resigned.
  
  It impacts me directly at times giving me more work than needed or the work I've done in the past gets totally invalided and makes me feel like I've wasted all that time doing things, especially if I was told to do it by my manager and they somehow forget that they told me to do it in the first place.

- Crazy ass dreams about sneaking into my bf's childhood home (except it wasn't) so we could drink wine in the kitchen, but people lived there and caught us and I tried to explain but they were, understandably, going WTF. Then I think I waved down a random car and pretended it was my uber to get out of there.
  
  I dreamt I was studying at home all my high school and uni maths courses again, just to relearn and know . Me and Mr Seagoon were sharing a big desk where he was doing his own work/study too and I gave him cuddle and a kiss and said he inspires me 🙂

Fun little edit because the physicist in me will never die: I just did a rough estimate, and when the sun hits this window it's almost exactly the same as running a space heater at full blast (it's actually a little more).
With the insulation it's equivalent to a person standing in the room doing nothing.
- I've got the shadecloth based under-tent ground cover hanging from my gutter over a couple of west facing windows. Seems to have helped a bit.

In other news, I've talked people at work onto volunteering at an animal rescue! We get a set amount of paid volunteering hours so why not make the most of it and help some critters along the way.
- GIBSON! aw poor gibsby. It is indeed a rough day for fluff. We used to give ours cool showers on hot days like this. Probably a bit traumatic, and sticking them straight into a shower isn't the way to go about it, but with sufficient treats they usually don't mind when it's really hot
  I'm strongly considering animal fostering once I turn 18. I was reading an article on a foster org and apparently they're very in demand around this time of the year. I'm actually even considering emailing one and explaining my situation and even though I can't adopt one, seeing if they'd be willing to give me a shot anyway

- I've never really understood brownouts. Do they basically just lower the voltage? Or is it more like intermittent short power outages (kinda like a flicker lightbulb except it's everything)?
  
  Oh oh I know this one! I used to work for a DB and like 4 different retailers lol
  A brownout is lowering the voltage in an electrical power system. In this case, they've lowered the voltage for Heidelberg, and prolly surrounding 'burbs, to prevent a total blackout (where too much power is consumed by the grid and it either cuts entirely, or the DB will cut it before damage is caused). Brownouts are meant to ensure everyone still has some power, rather than no power at all.
  
  I’ve never really understood brownouts. My understanding is its when you shit yourself and you know the undies are toast but you reckon you can still save the jeans/shorts.
  
  I think there's less power coming through. The tv works, and one light, and the fridge seems to still be running but the inside light is dim. Nothing else. I imagine it'll come good at some point. The safety switch hasn't flipped so I reckon it's them not me.

Iced Coffee at home - Spud's Method
Get a nice big mug or glass
add 4 teaspoons of instant coffee
add 1 teaspoon of ~~auger~~ (SUGAR)
either use the hot water tap and run it till super hot (mine gets to almost boiling), or boil some water
pour boiling/hot water into mug/glass, just enough that it covers the sugar and coffee
stir lots
add cold milk to the top
add ice cubes
stir
place in freezer until ready to consume (if it freezes it's just a coffee slushy)
- Four teaspoons would give me heart palpitations and visions of the hatman
  
  I usually have at least 6 cups of instant coffee a day, so I have a tolerance I guess 😂 it's more so the coffee flavour is there, otherwise the milk dilutes it lol

- Love iced coffee. But four teaspoons would send me into a spin! I bet it makes a good coffee though. I always find my home made iced coffees are a bit weak on the coffee flavour. I suspect being cold dulls the flavour down, and of course higher volume. I tried using one of those coffee syrups to boost the flavour but found it a bit too sweet and with an odd background flavour. I’ve found making a strong plunger coffee and putting it the fridge to cool down give the best result, but that requires preplanning which I don’t always do.

As a menopausal woman with a nearly pubescent girl child, I'm having a touch of concern about my ability to ensure her future needs are met in a modern and comfortable way. Will be preemptively purchasing period undies at some point.

- I love my bonds period undies. My skin never coped well with pads and I struggle with tampons too. I've tried the kmart period undies and they're okay for the price, but I'm not trusting them on some days!
  
  Oh yeah some days I still use a super pad, especially overnight (the U overnights, that are super long, work a treat). And same with the skin thing, having the skin rubbed all ways to Sunday by synthetic pad material makes for a very uncomfortable time, when it already is an uncomfortable time lol!
  Some brands are just a bit too... Flimsy, poorly made, or not absorbent enough for use. Maybe okay for the end of a period, or spotting, but not days 2 - 4 😂

To give people a little hope in these trying times... am I the only one here doubting it will hit 40 today? Was just outside and yeah it's warm, but I don't feel it in my bones...

  I'm still keeping the AC on for a couple hours as the bricks are still hot and emitting heat. 22C at night is still much hotter in this apt.
- Yep it's here in Fitzroy as well. A bit windy which is helping move some of the hot air out of my apartment that has been closed up all day.
- I've been pleasantly surprised at the lack of major fires today. Super bad day for it with the winds. There's one evacuation in progress north of Ballarat, and a few stay informeds around the state (as well as one for a gas leak/"explosives hazard") in Broadford, but there easily could've been multiple major bushfires and a few "it's too late to leave"s issued today

  They do indeed. So do Australians - check out colesworth. The original 'mince pie' would have had beef or pork mince in it. It was a protein/sugar/vitamin blast reserved for celebrating the 12 days of Christmas (which go from Christmas Eve to 6th January) before the peasants went back to eating pottage only until Easter. Its a small pie that can be made in quantity and handed out to all an sundry to celebrate the holy season. Which was a thin Christian layer over a much older tradition of celebrating the darkest coldest time of the year with fire and good food and good company.

So far so good with today’s weather. Only 34 at my place, air con doing a lovely job of keeping it nice inside. Washing dried super fast on the line. Managed to get a couple of chores done too.

I am excited for vegables. Was strict meat and eggs for a week basically to kick start keto. Now tmrw morning I look forward to: 1 steak, 1 avo, 1 zucchini, and a half punnet of mushies. Cooked in butter. Have had like two salads in the last week but I'm missing veges. Going to keep up with one meal a day keto for the foreseeable future, just W more veg

Today kind of sucked and not just the heat.

Movie talk. War of the Rohirrim.
It was very good, a meaningful story that merits watching a few times. Sort of like Beowulf.
Animation so inventive , sets a strange mood. Mythic characters in a real setting sets a feeling of timelessness, a fairy tale once upon a time.
Characters were good too .
If I didn't know better I'd say GDT was involved, what with the inventive animation, the empowered women and it's about the Rohirrim, but it might just have been the jackson production quoting his lines.
I loved it. Cried my eyes out but I do that for most movies. 3.75 hobbits

Got my power bill for the first 30 days of my tenancy. Could be worse, at first I was all SIXTY DOLLAS?! but then realised my previous two months at my old place (same provider and reseller) with zero AC use were 56 and 57 bucks each.
That first digit bias is real. Maybe using the AC won't be that pricey. Should see what the power usage is like after running it for >24hrs over Sun and today (so nice inside, even the bedroom is tolerable). 26C on economy mode, could be ok?
At least I'm saving about 10/week without gas and not needing to pay for water and hot water.

Why is it still going to be 38 at 7pm when I finish work and need to go buy groceries 😭 I thought I would be safe
- So we get far more hot days in Perth than in Melbourne. If you ever get a Perthy telling you to harden up: Melbourne's heat is worse than Perth's. Perth's weather comes from the west and every afternoon we have a sea breeze come in (Fun fact: The sea breeze used to be called the "Fremantle Docker" because it brought the ships in to dock) to take the heat away. The evenings are far nicer. In Melbourne, that heat tends to come from the north. It moves down into Melbourne and just settles over the city. You can get days where the minimum is still around 30.
  Perth doesn't have that. Even on 40 degree days, our minimum temperatures tend to be in the low-20's. We can still sleep. Remind anyone from here of that sea breeze if they ever get smug about Melbourne's hot spells.

I've decided today's kitchen theme is "probiotic". I have yoghurt culturing and started a new pot of sauerkraut. Once I am off the antibiotics I will have some reinforcements for my intestinal microflora ready to go!

  None of the clients want to kick off a project at the moment. So a change refrigeration?
- Semi freeze. Stuff that is already approved/scheduled is ok. Stuff in lower environments is ok. Nothing in UAT or Prod except emergency changes with manager approval this week.
  I did have one change I was meant to implement on Friday, that now has to wait four weeks. But it is just to delete some old VMs that have been powered off for a couple of weeks. They can totally wait until 2025.
  Total change freeze for three weeks starts Monday; but I have those three weeks off (so does half the office) anyway.
