The UK steps up with an 81% emissions cut target at COP29 following Trump win

Following Trump's US election win, the UK has stepped into a leadership role at COP29, and it's just announced a more ambitious climate goal.

81% by 2035 if anybody is wondering. That however is a strong target. Lets see how they plan to meet it.
- I hope it means they nationalize and expand rail, go hard on new offshore wind and ocean current production, ban oversized vehicles, and create community hydroponic gardens. Of course this is the UK labour party and not a real labor party, so they'll half-ass everything they try
I hope Canada chooses to go join Dad at the big table instead of staying down here with the siblings.

And why does he have a knife again?
Finally, some reporting of what the current level is Vs 1990 levels.

UK greenhouse gas emissions have fallen by almost half from 1990 levels, mainly due to the phaseout of coal from electricity generation.

So another ⅓ to go, in ten years. For that to happen we need to see announcements of plans very soon. The easy changes have already been made / are in progress for the grid. Manufacturing and industrial transport are the next big targets by my reckoning. Electrification of goods transportation would be a huge win.
