Husbando, yeah. I agree with you though, it's not as fun to say.

Husbando, it's really just a japanese accent of saying wife and husband.

Waifu is gender neutral.

Husbando is the only word I have ever heard used for this (other than just throwing gender to the wind and calling male characters waifu as well)
