Very important that US is disrespected by countries it needs to bribe harder to be independent, and for colonies to push back on oppression. Tolerating US empire's opinion on technology is tolerating hegemony. US too desperate to stir up BS everywhere to afford to do it everywhere. Investment in US will decline if they limit their trade to just the closest friends, and massive tariff evading middlemen will also be the infrastructure to evade sanctions.

Yup, tons of shills and Kremlin information on here. I've never told a soul I use it because of that, and no doubt many thousands have visited, seen it, and just left instead of helping it grow.
Not shocking, the combined budget for addressing malicious propaganda and disinformation, from all instances in the entire fediverse, is exactly $0.00
I don't understand why, before I left reddit a few months ago I had never heard of a tankie and now I hear it all the time.
My guess is that there are two main factors.
Part of it may be that "tankie" comes from UK political discourse (originally used as an insult from members of the UK Communist Party who wanted to distance themselves from their crazier members who defended the Soviet Union using tanks against civilians to squash anti-soviet demonstrations).
Since then the term has evolved to mean any westerner that acts as a mouthpiece or apologist for the likes of Russia/China.
It's possible that what with Russia's actions as of late, more of the world is being exposed to the term.
The other factor, and one that impacts here in particular, is that there is a massive tankie presence on Lemmy. In fact the original Lemmy developers were tankies, and lemmy.ml (the "ml" being marxists-lenninist) was their preferred instance. Hexbear is another massive tankie instance.

Sounds like you’ve got a bone to pick to me. Sanctioning Russia is all the rage these days; it’s not like they’re the only ones doing it. I’d even go a step further and say everyone should be sanctioning Russia. The fact that the US also sanctions Russia is a good thing.
Sanctions are only from empire colonies. While CIA controlled media fearmongers about a stronger Russia rampaging over Europe, as a reason to force Russia into a massive military production increase that will then force colonies into greater dependence on CIA fear and subjugation, the real danger to the world is the US empire's weapons and oil profits scheme to diminish Russia a little actually being successful. It means more warmongering and diminishment of world as attempts in Venezuela and Georgia show.
Only failure can free Europe. Only failure and US collapse can prioritize human/climate sustainability over more warmongering, including getting Russia to prioritize humanity over self defense. Also treating AI as a weapon is categorically incompatible with human survival, including for citizens of the empire and colonies.
