Cumtown was on a list of leftists podcasts I saw before I'd ever heard of it. I got some clips of it in my YouTube feed and it was all racial jokes and jokes where the punchline is someone is gay.
Stav’s standup is good. No idea why the podcast was the way it was. I’ve heard people say the podcast was unfunny on purpose, but that will never convince me it was good. I just don’t get it.
I think they did have some incredibly funny bits. Liberal elmo (CW racism) and the CIA recruitment ad (CW CSA discussion) are just pure gold and did not punch down at all. The same obviously can't be said for the vast majority of the podcast, since most of the time they were making insensitive and inflammatory jokes just with the purpose of being on the edge of what could be acceptable. That caused a lot of harm and it still affects the culture of the online left in a negative way. Was it worth it? Probably not. Did Nick Mullen go on Fox Red Eye and bully John Bolton (CW: Fox, racism, Nick Mullen, misogyny)? Yeah, he did do that. I don't have anything else to say.
Fair play. This should narrow down the interested parties to only those he should take a REAL interest in. Unless some Habsburg descendant with a jaw shaped like a tennis ball and a brain stem shaped like a question mark misinterprets the "looking for my queen" bit, but then we should at least get a romantic comedy out of it.
I think an approach like this is far better than trying to appeal to as many people as possible. I had "FUCK [local] right-wing party" in my profile and that I’m left-wing/ Pro BLM, and I talked with my now-partner about politics and Palestine five sentences into our first convo.
[on a blind date] You listen to a lot of NPR? That's cool, I hear the tiny desk concert things are pretty good. What do I listen to? Well there's this thing called Cum Town and today I caught an extended segment where an adolescent Ben Shapiro gets his prepubescent testicles crushed inside the ass of child sex predator Mr. Feeny from Boy Meets World and that's the backstory to why Ben Shapiro's voice is so shrill in the voiceovers for those Nissan car commercials. Wait, why are you leaving? I thought this was going well?
WSB split off from Socialist Alternative; I did not follow and later left Socialist Alternative (which I wrote about here). Unfortunately I think that new WSB's central idea - that the moment is ripe for a cross-union mass membership organization of workers that's not a communist party - is incorrect. They are currently campaigning for Jill Stein and Kshama says that a successful "spoiler" vote for Stein that resulted in a Trump win would lead to the creation of a major third party, which would be great if it were true but it's not. Unfortunately their deviation from SAlt has only made them worse; they still share SAlt's bad theory on Israel and presumably some of the leadership culture.
But it was a nice moment and although we made some mistakes with the unionization work at Amazon KCVG it was still a good thing overall.
