APD ‘Investigator of the Year’ shot, killed after breaking into Douglas County home, DCSO says
The sheriff's office says the homeowner shot and killed the officer in self-defense.

A person attempted to gain entry into the residence (and) when he gained entrance, the homeowner produced a firearm in self-defense and shot the individual. We believe the burglar lived in the neighborhood,” Mauney said.
Atlanta police identified the deceased man as Aubree Clay Horton. Last month, the Atlanta Police Foundation hosted its annual “Crime is Toast” awards breakfast, where Horton was recognized as “investigator of the year.”.
Of course they go on about the whole loving father and good neighbor bit after that.
One described him as a loving father who was proud to wear his badge.
Cool story. But apparently he didn't have respect for that badge.
Genuinely surprised they didn't try to frame the victim for something. I can only assume it's because the bad cop broke into a house in the jurisdiction where he lived, not the one where he worked, and so the cops who first responded to the scene didn't recognize him and instigate a cover-up.
It's easy yo get investigator of the year when you're breaking into places.
Stealing the fruit of the poison tree is a surefire way to get blasted.
