I'm kinda hoping that BG 1 and 2 will eventually get remade in BG 3's engine via modding
- It's been attempted before with other game engines (like DA: O) but maybe this time it'll happen. Though I hate to be a negative Nancy but don't hold your breath with these fan conversions - they're huge undertakings. Skyblivion actually looks like it might happen, but it's exceedingly rare.
- That was the first thing I thought when I read the news that they unlocked the map editor.
I am not tapped into the BG3 mod community, is stuff going to take off like Skyrim?

It seems more "character oriented" and less sandboxy, so that's wishful thinking I suppose.
- I bet it's gonna take off like warcraft 3 than skyrim, both are super huge but in different way.

- There is a pretty substantial community around designing and playing custom stories in DnD. They (presumably because of contracts) didn't make that possible out of the box with BG3/official tools, but the fact that people figured out how to bypass the restrictions means that there's a lot of pre-existing material that really doesn't need to be tailored much to fit into the experience.
  
  It's not no work, because the nature of a human Dungeon Master gives you a lot more flexibility, but there's definitely potential for a big community unless Larian is pushed into doing whack-a-mole bullshit to harass modders.
  
  Thanks, this is exactly what I was trying to ask. What "motivation" potential modders have.
  
  wotc would have to "admit" to doing what the community only suspects (deliberately restricting these tools in the contracts) to harass modders, right? I hope that means they'll turn a blind eye.
Doesn't BG2 start off in a dungeon/prison and very similar to how BG3 opens, except it's not on an illithid space ship? 🤔

The djinnai in that first dungeon was also less of a dick than the one you encounter at the bazaar in 3 lol
- Yes, although BG2s starter dungeon is a whole act instead of a few rooms/battles.
  
  But this mod is starting with the opening area, Waukeen's Promenade, where the game opens up, (similar to act 1 in BG3).
  
  Also technically BG2 has the tutorial area with Xan that is similar to BG3 in the sense of being a quick few rooms and battles to teach the basics.
- You also start at a fairly high level instead of level 1.
