Trump campaign says former president is safe following possible gunshots in his vicinity. The Secret Service, in conjunction with the Palm Beach County Sherriff's Office, said it is investigating a protective incident involving Trump.
The guy seems to be a whacko. He was arrested for illegally having a machine gun 20 years ago. He has donated to both political parties. He also donated to Tulsi Gabbard.
I somehow got on the Trump campaign's email list and periodically get garbage from them. I received the following email less than 4 hours after it happened.
ALERT FROM TRUMP
My resolve is only stronger after another attempt on my life!
I will never slow down.
I will never give up.
I WILL NEVER SURRENDER!
I thank God every day for having supporters like you on my side.
On November 5th, WE WILL MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!
MAGA
-- followed by suggested donation amounts ranging from $24 to $3300. The grift never ends.
Like, there's no fraud or misleading material here. Trump's campaign is (presumably) providing exactly what one would expect for the donation: trying to improve Trump's chances at the White House. They're maybe taking every chance to push for money, but constantly trying to sell stuff alone isn't grifting.
If it were trying to get people to invest in Trump Media & Technology Group or something, where I think that a lot of small investors have a rather-confused take on the company's prospects, then I'd be more-inclined to agree.
If you look up the guy's (now deleted) twitter, the guy was a pro-NATO nutcase who I guess earnestly believed Trump would disband NATO.
I'm not calling all people who are pro-NATO nutcases, I mean the dude was mentally ill and extremely pro NATO, claimed he had thousands of "NATO-trained Afghan troops" ready to defend Taiwan, claimed he was going to go fight in Ukraine, tried to buy a rocket from Elon Musk to assassinate Putin, etc.
He also claimed the purpose of the threat was to strengthen NATO by getting more countries to increase their military budgets. Trump isn't anti-imperialist.
Something tells me that "a guy fired a gun near me" is not going to get him the tiny amount of sympathy "a guy's bullet nicked my ear" got him. You can't wear a tiny pillow on nothing.
Dude didn't even get a shot off. And at 400 yards, an AK might hit the broad side of a barn. This was an assassination attempt equivalent to a palsy patient attempting to do brain surgery with a pipe wrench.
(shamelessly stolen from Sin City)
You can expect 4MOA or better from an AK, which means a 16" group at 400 yards. Not great, but not exactly gambling odds if you're on the receiving end, either.
Great, this will probably dominate the news for a while and give Trump a breather after he spent the last week alienating voters. That said, while he might be able to milk this for a brief bump in the polls, I doubt it would last. He doesn't have the ability to not loudly proclaim insane bigoted nonsense.
Hopefully this will cause him to either get overly cautious (unlikely) or become even more nuts and repulsive to anyone that isn't a die hard loyalist already.
To the media: I don't give a shit. Stop talking about this pathetic waste of oxygen, hydrogen, nitrogen, carbon, calcium, and phosphorus. This allegedly existing alleged person offers no value, so just ignore them.
