Me trying to infinite scroll but the algorithm is just new posts in chronological order. What is this, a reasonable platform that I don’t feel like using 24/7?
Me- Top 6 hours. Browse on and off throughout the day, then when I get low on content I hit top 6 hours again and keep going. But I'm not on my phone that much especially on work days.
Maybe it’s just me, maybe it’s the algorithms, but I do notice a difference in how I feel after spending time on the Lemmy or Mastodon vs Instagram or LinkedIn
Idk what your feed looks like but if it's like mine-- posts hyping ai juxtaposed with posts from artists that are (rightfully) upset that their work is being used without their consent to train generative ai in a push to replace artists or devalue their work-- linkedin can feel pretty dire and soul sucking.
I too only think of shit like twitter, tiktok, insta, youtube, etc. to be social media, but drawing the line is difficult. Why aren't forums social media? What are the qualities (or lack thereof) that define social media and those that don't?
With social media, you follow people, not topics and people for some batshit insane reason are willing to use their real name and face. With a forum, or in this case link aggregation platform, you follow topics. There is no real incentive or reason to follow an individual on a forum.
Hear me out, I genuinely want to know what someone thinks of this idea.
We have Life Phone 3 coming soon and some good e-ink options.
I have been thinking about one of those e-ink box Palmas and putting a minimalist launcher on it making it my primary work device or get away from the world device.
My Pixel 8 Pro is running GrapheneOS so my primary phone would manage my worldly needs in a private manner while my Boox would handle my get away needs for just the essentials. Reading and browsing nothing more.
I would lock the device down with a child google account and Google's family link app. This could see screen time prevent launcher changing and unnecessary app downloads my primary phone could manage it under a segmented Google profile in GrapheneOS. I think I would find myself to annoyed to even bother allowing app downloads so I would just install what is felt the phone was necessary for. A basic web browser, minimalist launcher and reading apps, lemmy and maybe Reddit. It would cut downy screentime a lot I think.
